Now I think "unlimited" bandwidth can indeed exist.

I can think of only one instance where unlimited bandwidth actually does exist:

I run the hosting section of flagrun.net a new gaming site we're launching soon. Our servers are part of the Playnet network, and we pay a grand total of $0 for everything other than the domain name. This includes bandwidth. We incurr no charges whatsoever for extreme bandwidth usage, and no penalties are issued to us. Any of our hosted sites can literally use unlimited bandwidth and unlimited disk space, because Playnet will always give us more. Right now we don't use much bandwidth, but the above is in fact the case.

The catch is that we only host gaming sites, so this doesn't apply to most people, but I think it is a valid point none the less.

Ok, they can give you as much bandwidth as you need without charging you more, but not unlimited bandwidth. Thats, "As much bandwidth as you need". You can't have a OC-UNLIMITED. All lines have a limited amount of bandwidth.

i think we're confusing 2 things here:

firstoff -- bandwidth is the "width" of a data cable/pipe. Whereas transfer is the amount of bytes your site can transfer in one month. And it is correct that there is no such thing as unlimited bandwidth, however as rewdog says -- you can offer "as much bandwidth/transfer as you need".

People always ask how much bandwidth do you offer? -- the correct expression would be transfer considering thats what you need to know. :)

While I don't think it is common, some hosts do cap sites so asking, "How much bandwidth...?" might not be bad either. Just to be sure :)

Chicken i think *most* hosts offer around 300mb/s, i think its kind of difficult for any site to reach that amount in 1 second. what do you think ? ;)

Yeah, I don't think it is big issue, unless the site was capped at some obscenely low amount.

I think if you get a statistic of every computer on the internet (or whatever) and multiply that by the size of the average website then change that to mbps you can determine exactly how much transfer would be needed for "unlimited" bandwidth.

Or something like that.

You see your bandwidth/transfer still isnt unliminted because i still have to pay for it -- unlimited :D
