Basically they are an ISP and they have excess bandwidth from the ISP side that they use for hosting. Frank Angel78 09-30-2001, 03:46 PM so these 99$ come with 300 gb? that is a really good deal. are their servers fast?..is anyone here using their dedicated? ffeingol 09-30-2001, 04:21 PM Fast is relative :D Their network seems to be pretty good. The RaQ OTOH has a 450 mhz AMD processor. Not real fast. Frank TechnoHosts 09-30-2001, 05:43 PM The RAQ holds its own. I know, because I have one that I use for various reasons. cbaker17 10-01-2001, 01:01 AM Raq 4s are fine if your just using them for small databases, and static html, get into any type of dynamic content and its not going to hold up under any type of a large load. Angel78 10-01-2001, 07:24 AM OK one more question...i have a small web design & sollutions firm but all of my customers are all over the "hosting-world" ( tera-byte etc...) so i wanted to get a raq4 and have them on one place...is that ok? The mostly needed option is mysql for small forums written in php. Does this require stronger server? Chicken 10-01-2001, 10:08 AM Well, you really can't say that it is going to fine or not, but when the forum get to be too much for the server, you either shift that site to a more powerful server or transfer everything to a more powerful server (not an easy task, but people have done it here and are most likely willing to help). Angel78 10-01-2001, 10:16 AM well none of these forums is so big like WHT they are around 1% of WHT...just small support forums like most firms have. :) anyway thanks a lot for answers NORRITT 10-02-2001, 12:22 PM I just see everywhere RaQ4 opinions. whats about a RaQ3? If I add as much RAM as possible (256 or even 512? I donno), how good would this option be? I mean, has someone a (heavy) forum or some customers running on a RaQ3, he/she could tell us how it is performing? The CPU is as far as I know a AMD K6 with 300 Mhz. But where are the other differents to a RaQ4? Is the GUI different or the amount of accounts you are able to add? ffeingol 10-02-2001, 12:31 PM Well the biggest problem with RaQ3's is that they just have older "everything". PHP, for example in not installed. There also is no PHP package, so you have to compile it by hand. That is getting harder and harder, as the other old software on the box does not play well with the newer versions of PHP. Why would you want an older RaQ3 when you can prob. get a RaQ4 at RS cheaper? Frank gobears20 10-03-2001, 04:14 AM I have a BBS that usually has 30-100 people on the BBS at a time. If I were to go with the RaQ4 and have 512 MB of RAM, would my BBS run fast? My site takes 500K-800K page views a month. Also, does anybody know what the downtime is for these servers? NORRITT, I'm with ffeingol, go with the 4. These servers are very cheap! I am just worried if I go with them and then notice that my site is slow all the time. Am I stuck or will they let me out? By the way this would be my first dedicated server;). I have been on a Virtual Server for three years. Thanks! NORRITT 10-03-2001, 08:48 AM Originally posted by ffeingol PHP, for example in not installed. There also is no PHP package, so you have to compile it by hand. Well there is a PHP4 pkg for RaQ3. Frank I can not attend to rackshack, because they just allow credit card billing, but I am under 18 years and there is no way to get a credit card under 18 in germany. Look at www.internetexpress.com they have very cheap RaQ3īs ($50/month with 50GB traffic) and also the setup fee is not that huge. As someone in the WHT forums has posted, you can send them more RAM and they install it for free, but than it is theirs. Thats also very nice, isnīt it? will5404 10-03-2001, 11:38 AM Rackshack would still be a better deal than Internet Express, but I never thought I would see a $50 USD a month dedicated server. For my Raq4i I run 1 vbulletin forum, almost 55,000 posts and 1000 members and it works great (I am with rackshack) I aso host a few other forums and sites on the side and everything works great so far. Raq4 is great for budget dedicated hosting. I am considering the RAM upgrade from Rackshac but its f***ing expensive considerin what it costs them Originally posted by NORRITT Well there is a PHP4 pkg for RaQ3.
