View Full Version : BrainFox
DynastyHost 09-28-2000, 09:22 PM Have anyone tried them before??
I listed over 40 listings but only like a few hits. Waste MONEY!!..
btw.. the url is http://www.brainfox.com
GordonH 09-30-2000, 09:01 AM Yes,
Similar story here.
I signed up with 30 dollars and they gave me 300 dollars extra.
I have had 33 hits, but none resulting in a sale.
I am burning up my remaining money by being listed in their "Featured web tools section" at $3 per hit.
Actually, I have used a few of these:
Sprinks: delivers lots of traffic from About.com but eats through the money.
About.com: Lots of hits but not convinced they led to any direct sales.
Epilot.com: Lots of hits, some evidence of sales as a result.
Actually I would recommend reading http://www.selfpromotion.com it has a section on goto.com that recommends not being in the top three as they tend to attract melicious clickers!

stuartwright 09-30-2000, 08:19 PM Sorry guys, but I think you two were kind of naive to fall for those things. Those places that quarantee to get you into the top 10 of search engines are a load of crap... because what happens when their eleventh customer comes along? They can't exactly get 11 sites into the top 10 can they? hmm?
Really guys, think about these things. And I bet even their site doesn't show in the top 10 of a relevant search, so if they can't do it for themselves, they can't do it for you.
Cheers :D
GordonH 10-01-2000, 03:38 AM These are not search engines, they are advertising directories.
They don't promise to get you in their top ten, they allow you to buy any position.
And some of them do work.
Goto.com uses this model.
Its a form of advertising and its much more cost effective than banner advertising.

DynastyHost 10-01-2000, 04:19 AM so you're saying that if you want to get hits.. you must bid higher than your competitor?
GordonH 10-01-2000, 06:40 AM No,
Actually there is some evidence that sites in position 5-10 get more genuine hits.
There is an article at http://www.selfpromotion.com on this.
The other half of my business is web marketing and I buy a lot of advertising on behalf of clients.
In general pay per click directories have been more cost effective than banner ads because the people visiting the site are looking for that subject.
You usually have to pay a lot to get in the top 3. On goto.com, the top 3 are also used by other search engines (can't remember which). If you are in the top 3 you will need a lot of money to keep it going.
Sprinks.com puts their listings into the main pages of about.com, but they don't have any protection against melicious multiple click throughs so someone (a competitor - surely not?) could clean out your account in a few minutes!

Chicken 10-01-2000, 10:53 AM While I don't think it is bad, I persoanly don't know anyone who uses goto.com as their search engine of choice and had never heard of brainfox until you mentioned it. Then again, I haven't heard of many things, but...
I am actually surprised you got that many hit from it. Not bad, eh?
DynastyHost 10-01-2000, 02:56 PM Any other programs like goto.com, sprinks.com, brainfox.com??
GordonH 10-01-2000, 04:47 PM http://www.epilot.com/
They have solved the problem of getting people to use them by paying them 3c per search.
Gordon
superiorhost 10-02-2000, 03:39 AM I have tried goto and several other "pay for position" search listings, and find that for the money - They aren't worth what you pay.
Sure,, you'll get some hits, but look at the dollars spent per click through. Watch the stats, and you will see they are not the best choice to make.

itinternet 10-28-2000, 02:29 PM I have been using Sprinks, Goto.Com and BrainFox since they all open and this is what I can tell you.
Goto.com is just too expensive and is really bade in support.
Sprinks is not even worth talking about.
and
BrainFox. - These guys are the very best. Not such much in traffic but in everything else. They do not outsource their engine to other sites like goto.com and about everyone else which is why they bring in more traffic but do you really want all this fraudulent traffic and their support is so awesome. I wrote them a problem that I was having and support@brainfox.com got back to me in less than two hours.
I use to have problems with BrainFox but then I started to work with them and I found that they are so awesome. Imagine getting traffic anywhere else but http://www.brainfox.com offers it for $.001 and they are so awesome becuase I got started with only $5.00 - listings are immediate and I saw my stuff in less than 5 minutes after getting started.
I don't know about you people but I got a 500% bonus on my first deposit and that is so worth in to try it out.
The others guys don't work, sure goto.com is ok but BrainFox has the recipe for success because they know support and that is where all these other sites are so lacking. Sure traffic is lacking and things need major improvement but that will come. Im a customer for life and those who dog BrainFox simply have not seen the support and quality of what they can provide. They don't promise top placements, they are a search engine true and blue, take advantage of them - I did and I was never happier.

ROTFLMAO
Chicken 10-28-2000, 03:52 PM Ummm, let's try to keep it civil, or a lockin' we will go...
itinternet: Welcome *but* try not to insult everyone with your very first post. We don't tolertate flaming, etc., so an edit would be appreciated.
etLux 10-28-2000, 03:59 PM It's not always the fault of the engine. Sometimes people just aren't interested in what you're hawking.
Having had this problem selling my excellent booklet, "33 Quick and Easy Slime Mold Recipes for the Busy Executive Housewife", I know whereof I speak, too.
And dang, I really thought that would be a winner. Go figure.
