Which one do you think is better? Right now I am with aletia, and I'm really liking it, but I'm also looking at tera-byte fourth unix hosting plan because it offer the same disc storage (200MB), but twice the bandwidth (20GB). Any opinions/suggestions?

- kb

(BTW To anyone who is hosted with tera-byte, do they offer anything that they don't mention? ex. Sub domain, support for perl & c++, anonymous ftp, more than one ftp account, SSL)

I don't have any personal experience. Use the search button at the top of this page and try a search on tera-byte and then aletia. You'll find quite a lot of info on each.

What address did you use?

I use steve@tera-byte.com and sometimes it's really quick (when Steve is there) and sometimes it's slow (when he isn't).

No it is not what it used to be - it is even better than before :)
the new admin panel is better - though I am not sure whether you can administer Mysql thru that or not.Aletia may be more feature rich, but to me tera seems faster and stable uptime too.
The only -v is if you consume high bandwidth tera's bills seem to become higher -er ( see posts in this forum) and there is no realtime bandwidth monitor :(
over all tera is fantastic - but to choose between aletia and tera - very tough

Well, I'll probably just stay with aletia, since I'm already there. I've used tera-byte for just about everything but hosting, though, and I am satisfied. I've used their domain registration (which is actually through tucows), spaceports.com, redirection.net, and ******** (which are companies own and run under Steve Keyser and Tera-byte).

Tera-byte has excellent support, they always answer in 24 hours or less for me and I'm only a affiliate for them and not a customer.

No subdomains on tera-byte virtual accounts, or so I hear.

Ive never heard anything bad about aletia.... nor have i heard a whole lot about tera-byte, although i think aletia may take a little more personal care of its customers since their smaller, thats a feature i would like...

that is a big - (bandwidht monitor) there is a option to send e-mail to recive your actuall bandwidht..but i think thay can afford a real bandwidht monitor. And the new control panel is not awailable on all of their accounts. :(((

Is anyone actually on the 4U plan and actually using 20 gb of transfer? I don't know, to me that's a TON of transfer for the prices they're offering. Oh yea, I'm talking about tera-byte.

I used aletia and was very unsatisfied. Support is HORRIBLE in my opinion. Waiting days for answers is crazy.

That about aletia has been changing over the last couple of months. Just haven't been much discussion about it here!

I hope it gets better, but things are not looking all that spiffy right now.

Check out the forums at Aletia for details. One of the 'better' mods is even stating this now.

I would not let my mother-in-law host with Aletia!

a couple of questions since I'm interested in getting a terabyte account.

Why is it that some packages do NOT include a control panel?
What control panel do they use? Their own? or cPanel?
What do you think are the chances of getting ImageMagick or NetPBM installed on a server?
I'm okay with so-so support, since I generally don't need help as long as the server is up. :) Uptime is good right? My friend has a dedicated server and uptime is good, but that's dedicated. I'm looking at shared.

Just an idea... But wouldn't it be faster to use their general support instead of emailing an individual employee? What if Steve is on holiday, out of the office, sick, whatever? :D

One of my sites, www.forums232.com (currently down for script upgrades) is hosted on a TB 4u plan.

I was using this plan to host my main site, www.gamerz232.org before I went rackshack. Since I had payed ahead for 12 months, I am now using it for forums...go figure.

Tera-byte is real good for shared hosting. They always did whatever I needed done within an hour.

Their dedicated's are expensive tho, which is why I went rackshack :(

Sometimes I do wonder....

on a shared server....if every account ram 20GB per month and there was 100 accounts on that server......

wow..................................................

2000GB per month of transfer...........

not counting CPU load if it was running on IDE only ...........

wow...................................................

but then again it must be running raid scsi.......... stripping big time on 4 drives+

must be one of those Dell servers which costs 10,000 U.S....

but then again who knows....
