View Full Version : Last night I grabbed EverydayLoans.com (right after its deletion). Any comments?
rickkumar 01-05-2004, 12:30 PM Hello,
We have 100s of domains already which are all original registrations except just couple og them which we bought from other people.
I was tracking a 'pending deletion' domain "EverydayLoans.com" for last few days. Last night I just happen to grab it. My cost is only $6.49 to register it.
What do you think? Was it worth doing it? I just tried it first time ever.
So want some comments.
Thanks.
Rick
othellotech 01-05-2004, 05:26 PM Well the original owner didn't think it was worth anything, so unless you have a plan for developing it, I'd say you just wasted $6.49 ;)
Bashar 01-05-2004, 06:57 PM exactly :D
rickkumar 01-05-2004, 07:33 PM Not exactly!
I already have parking page up for it and it has received 5 hits today and 2 click thrus. That mean I can have close to 150 hits per months or about 60 click thrus. One click thru is about 30 cents on average....i.e. $18/month. That means $216/year. Thats means a profit of $209.50/year.
By the way domain can drop for many reasons including: people forget to renew, unable to renew, don't want to renew etc etc.
Thanks.
ToddW 01-05-2004, 07:47 PM Ya Rick sounds like a nice domain!
The above guys apparently don't understand parking domains at places like SEDO and making money..
Oh well more for us ;)

kohashi 01-05-2004, 08:31 PM ToddW: many of us understand the idea of parking domains. To think otherwise would be very foolish.
If you can see consistent traffic and conversion maybe it be worth something. Who knows if that traffic is just a lucky day. Some domains convert very well one day and get 0 for a month.
eLiTeGuRu 01-05-2004, 10:28 PM Would you mind sharing where you backordered it for $6.49? :P :D

Rick,
First off nice snag. I am always out there looking for little gems like this.
I have a question for you on how you park your domain. What exactly do you do to park it? Also, how are you tracking the click-thru on the page?
kohashi 01-05-2004, 10:43 PM Domains are parked through use of nameservers or page forwarding.

Would you mind giving me an example of how this is done. Thanks!

You can use forwarding at Registrar level. Or set the domain's DNS at host level (CPanel offers add-on domains).
E.g.
URL forwarding at registrar level: http://gravity.org
Via DNS settings: http://407.org
kohashi 01-06-2004, 01:03 AM Or setup a frame as done on www.l-p.com :)
Logical J 01-06-2004, 05:04 AM Are you happy with that sedo.com portal deal?
It seems like it wouldn't be that hard to find domains that pay for themselves in a year if they were good.. and they handle all the bandwidth, DNS, and Ads.. you just register the domians and hopefully get enough click throughs.
Any more thoughts on this?
Logical J 01-06-2004, 05:06 AM Or does anyone know of any compeditors or locally hosted options that may be even better than using sedo.com?

If I follow your math, I could be millionaire :).
The domain is nothing special, think about it, if you want your parked domain makes money, it has to be:
1. something very common that people will type in like sex.com or love.com, which is impossible to get right now.
2. something that already popular, listed in Yahoo and such, then the owner forgot to renew it.
Everydayloans.com is in none of above. And if you can register it manully, that means nobody want it, if it had at least some value, you could never register it since it would have been on snapnames or pool.
Basically, worth exactly $6.50 IMO, agree with the other two.
kohashi 01-06-2004, 07:34 AM DOBo: essentialy you are saying what I do is impossible. Finding reg fee domains which were never registered that earn money. VeriSign said they had 5 million uniques to SiteFinder each day. That means there is 5 million unique visitors out there for me to find.
LogicalJ: www.domainsponsor.com, www.oingo.com, www.appliedsemantics.com, www.trafficz.com, www.domainspa.com, www.seekpay.com, www.sedo.co.uk are some pay-per-click advertising companies.

No I did not backorder it or any thing such. Those services are just way to expensive.
We have almost 1000 domains at Dotregistrar.com and we get $6.49 bulk pricing all the time.
So I can register any domain anytime via them and it just cost me $6.49/domain/year.
I just registered the domain after it dropped.
Thanks.

List you domains for sale at Sedo.us and sign up for their parking page.
Thats all you get complete stats of your visitors or any click thrus etc etc.
Btw, It is ALL FREE and you make some money also.
Thanks.
rickkumar 01-06-2004, 10:48 AM I have many many domains that are not love.com or sex.com, but they are getting up to 20 visitors per day.
Look at it like this. If your domain earns 2 cents a day it pay off its annual registration costs. Now good domains always go up in value and in future you may find a byuer that will pay few thousand for this domain that you may not have a use for but he/she may have a perfect use for it.
Buy the way, how many love.com or sex.com are there? Just 1 of each.
So just do the math.
I do not say that every domain is good, but if a domain is descriptive and has the main keyword mentioned in the domain name itself....believe me it is worth something.
Have you ever sold a 15 letter domain for 11k, I know a person who just did.
By the way I always look at the potential use of the domain before I register it.
I have picked up another one just one hour ago. It is www.HinduPersonals.com. Now there are more than 1 billion Hindus worldwide and You bet it has great value for a Hindu MatchMaking site. I had my eyes on it for quite a while.
Anyway, register only the names that you think has a value and can be used by someone for a purpose.
Thanks.
