View Full Version : Help me find my perfect partner

I recently signed up with 34sp.com as a host for a new site. I did this pretty much as a last minute measure - the site had to be launched and I didn't want to risk it with anyone else. Unfortunately, they're estimations as to when they'll launch new features (such as sub domains, multi-domain support and multiple databases) haven't been that accurate, and as the site has developed I find myself needing these features more and more.

So can someone recommend a good host?

[What I definitely need]
50Mb Webspace
500Mb Bandwidth
PHP4
MySQL (1 is ok, with an option to add more later)
Full CGI-BIN / Perl
SSI
15 POP3 or IMAP (with full web mail or option to install my own)
5 - 10 Sub domains
Full use of .htaccess files

Only happy with a Unix / Linux based server, I don't want NT or 2K please. Also, the packages must have good upgrade options - those basic specs are all I need for the minute, but I must be able to increase certain aspects as needed. :)

I do want that as cheap as possible, and I don't want to end up paying for a lot of extras that I don't need (and obviously I don't want to end up with Dodgy Hosts Inc. either) :D

Any help would be appreciated :)

I'm about to contact Waldo, you can just relax, nothing to go crazy over.

Does this look like an "offers" forum to you, perhaps you are reading impaired. He said he needed advice, not offers. You might as well just send mass unsolicited email.

No, I do appreciate any offers, as well as advice... where that leaves the moderator who has to decide whether to move this I don't know :D

I've e-mailed you Relyc for some further information (one thing I forgot to ask was whether the prices were Canadian or US Dollars!) :)

Any further advice is appreciated... any particular hosts to avoid or ones to go for?

Thanks

To solve any moderator problems, I'll post these requirements up in the Web Hosting Requests section (perhaps I should have put this there in the first place)... oh well, you can blame it on the fact that I'm new... and stupid, oh so stupid :D

Any offers post 'em up in that forum please :)

I am still most definitely looking for advice! I really do not want to end up with yet another poor quality host, so please post up any recommendations!

If I did that, it might end up in your mailbox, and I wouldn't want that any more than you would. Calm yourself, it really isn't a big deal.

This thread has been moved to the Requests Forum. In the future (mithilesh and relyc), please note that even if people ask for offers in the main forums, you may *not* post your URL (I realize relyc removed his).

You should have emailed the person directly or reported the post, asking if we thought it should be moved.

WaldoUK, you're new, not stupid, don't worry about it :D -and welcome to the forums...

Thanks to everyone who sent a variety of information through... some of the offers were good, some less so ;) I'm currently considering my options and I will get back to any hosts that have interested me... thanks again guys :)
