O.K. I'am new to this. I've been reading the posts here to try to figure out who offers good hosting services. However, I cant make allot of this stuff out. I'm looking for a fast reliable server (Unix or NT. Is one better than the other?) that can handle a good bit of rich media(if that matters). I guess the most important things to me are good technical support, speed, reliability, and unlimited ftp. Are there other things I should be concerned about? What should I be looking for when I size up a hosting plan. Also any suggestions about a specific host would be greatly appreciated(as long as you are not associated with the company).

Deb has a very nice page that addresses these very issues at http://www.forumhosts.com/hosts.htm which you might want to look through.

These are hosts id keep in mind for hosting your website.

http://www.tera-byte.com - fast unix servers (cobalt), large amounts off bandwidth, Low Prices and excellent technical support. I have been hosted with them for 4 months and not one compliant.

http://www.hostrocket.com - Fast unix servers , Reasonable amount of bandwidth, Cheap compared to other alabanza hosts, and again fast technical support.

http://www.fasthosts.co.uk - Fast NT Servers uk based, Technical Support has improved since they went 24/7 technical support at users request, Was hosted with them a while ago.

Don't use fasthosts, I have some info on them.check this out:

They have no customer services, just accounts. With 1 person who answers phones.

There technical support is not to hot. They do not log calls, neither do they have a database of error reporting..this is strange, as i'm sure there not that good with win2k servers. I say that, because since i've had the account i have been unable to upload anything, their tech support refuses to do anything about it?? anyway i have started to move some customers on to active ISP, who have been very good so far, and quick. I am about to take legal action against fasthosts, as they refuse to answer my e-mails or fob me off with the person i need to speak with is out of the office line. Anyway hope that helped. Here is a link, with a few comments about fasthosts http://www.dogvox.com/sucks.htm i have more sites, but hey i am thinking off setting one up myself called farthosts.
