I realize that you get what you pay for, and for 5 or 10 bucks per year you can't expect much.

But what you SHOULD BE able to expect is, you pay, you get an account set up.

This unfortunately is no longer the case.
I paid more than 10 days ago, still no account set up.
There are lots of new users in the ripplehost forums complaining about their accounts not being setup yet, one person paid more than 3 weeks ago.

Alan doesn't reply to emails or private messages. I want my 10 bucks back - I'm going somewhere else.
(and when I'm taking my other 5 active accounts with me)

in this case, a chargeback would get your money back. Good luck with your new host.

That doesn't sound like Alan. He's pretty respectable guy. I just read on his forums that he's setting up a new server, so I'm sure you're account will get setup any time soon though. However, use a chargeback as a last resort, only if you cannot get any response from them at all. Although it looks like you've tried. I'd wait a couple more days though with the holidays and all. Let him get back settled in.

Issue a chargeback and head elsewhere. Waiting 3+ weeks for an account to get setup is insane. Waiting over a day is stupid, imo.

Anyone got any recomendations for a similarly priced webhost?

This account was to be for my brother (bought him a domain and a years worth of hosting for christmas)

I agree. Alan's a standup chap, and he's been around in the hosting biz longer than most of us have.

Maybe checkout http://www.nexuswebs.net/ and see if that suits.

It's free and I guess you could frame forward the domain onto the nexuswebs subdomain but I don't think he's looking for that kind of setup.

And I don't know of any respectable hosts that will host a site for $10/yr. :(

Could probably find a few cowboys though. :D

You can check out clook.net, I've heard some good things regarding them and I've never seen bad things. They have a starter plan (named Test) that is $9.95/year.

Clook.net looks the best option. Only 10mb but hey, what a great deal for small sites. Discount-hosting.com is good but offers no tech support.

How do they do it without offerring tech support?

They help customers via the forums only.

At least there's still some support there.

This is a little similar to my friend's case. She cant get her money back either and that's also 10 bucks, although she was a little more fortunate than you as she got her first 3 months (supposedly a year) of hosting, and then that prick from acewebserv.com (now allprohost.com) suddenly deactivate her account telling her that somebody edited the pages of acewebserv.com, redirected to another server and stole the money without him knowing it???!! That is plain b*llsh*t! (sorry for the word).

my old host was www.2mhost.com they offer the legendary "unlimited" bandwidth and don't let you put downloads on your site... my site was hacked and my cpanel password was too probably cuz i couldnt log on

the only praise i can give for them is their technical support, which isnt great, but its pretty fast

We brought the new server online today. The accounts should now be set up.

We have also doubled the bandwidth on all accounts :D
