I'm wondering what external server monitoring service you all use if any. I signed up with siteuptime.com for now, but wondering if there are any better ones.

Alertra is a good one

Greetings:

We use the same system we developed for NTT/Verio's enterprise division.

Granted we are biased, but considering 60 second monitoring, unlimited distribution, escalation chains, et all... we are happy ;-)

Thank you.

I use Alertra too now. Haven't had a problem with them yet.

If you want to monitor all your servers/services... maybe you can consider installing nagios (http://www.nagios.org/) in one of your server?

Yep, we have Nagios running and use Alertra to provide uptime stats etc. Of course, make sure you have Nagios setup in an off-network server too. :)

I would have to second (or third?) the nagios suggestion. The software is great and with a little work you can build yourself a nice php or perl admin frontend to it.

I'm w/ thelinuxguy & 93.3.. Alertra is does its job very well. I'm actually looking into an off-site setup of Nagios as well.. guess it's a popular solution ;)

I'm using siteuptime for now as it's more cost effective and gets the job done for my one server ;)

But will most likely move to alerta in the future. Will look into Nagios also.

Why the need to use Nagios AND an external service? What is it that Nagios doesn't do?
