Hi All . . . :)
I'm new to this forum, so I thought I'd say "hi" and share some of my hosting horror stories with everyone . . . hoping someone will benefit from them.
Going through the posts here, I was happy to see that I wasn't the only one who'd had a terrible experience with ***** (not that I want others to suffer mind you, but it's good to know that I'm not the only one! ;)
I (ignorantly) chose ***** about a year ago to host one of my sites. I received my logins, and was ready to get started transferring my site. To make a long story short, my entire experience with them was simply BAD: from the "monster controls" (a control panel that I personally don't like) not working, to the "ticket monster" not working. I wrote several times with questions and requests for help with simply accessing areas that I needed in order to set up my site, but no reply! I tried their support number and it didn't work!
After being a client for a little over 36 hours, I cancelled my account. I did finally hear from them when I told them I wanted to cancel my account, then I had to fax them a form confirming my cancellation. By this time, I was concerned about getting my money back (since they made no mention of it when I cancelled and they did have a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee) . . . I wrote to them twice in two days regarding this with no reply whatsoever . . . I waited about a week, then I wrote again . . . and no reply again (during this time I called my credit card company to see if a credit had been issued.) Finally after two weeks of not hearing from them to get my refund I had to contact the BBB (better business bureau) in Texas (where ***** is based) and thankfully the BBB was able to help me in getting my money back.
My second horror story is with PrimeMaster . . . I have one thing to say to anyone considering them . . . DON'T GO THERE! My site only came up "some" of the time, and there were times I couldn't upload a thing (couldn't connect through FTP.) So, I wrote them with my cancellation request and they DID reply and say that my credit card would be credited . . . all good and fine. After a few days . . . I wasn't credited . . . :( . . . so I wrote to them again with no reply . . . so I resent the same message asking when I'd be credited 4 more times in the course of a week with no reply!
I called the company and the guy who answered the phone was . . . well, "not too informed" on how things run there (which caused me to wonder why this company would ever put him on the phones in the first place . . . perhaps he was the ONLY one, I have no idea) . . . every question I asked this man he answered with "I don't know" or "I'm not sure" . . . (talk about frustrating!) He did have one "pearl of wisdom" . . . he said that I would be credited for my account in 30 days (because California - which is where this place is based has a law that says merchants have 30 days to issue credits/refunds.) Ok . . . I took that and waited . . . I figured these folks would issue the credit "within" those 30 days . . . but no such luck . . . so again I wrote to them and finally was issued credit (45 days after I cancelled the account.)
My third (and final) horror story regards the WantSomeGetSome hosting company . . .
Well, at first I was "leery" of this place simply based on the name itself . . . I don't know, I just thought this was an "odd" this to call a hosting company and sounded like the possible name of "another type of business" . . . but I won't go there! lol
In a nutshell (cutting this short because my post at this point is already long enough) my site only loaded half the time, support did reply to my queries regarding the server slowness, but this person always blamed my connection as the problem telling me "well it came up for me in around 3 seconds." So, I did a Trace Route" and mailed it to him . . . he never said anything about this again! lol
Also I have to mention, their MySQL databases were SLOW to respond . . . I couldn't believe how slow they were (my html pages loaded faster - mind you, this is WHEN my site WOULD load.)
There is "light" at the end of this tunnel however . . .
Over the course of years on the Net, I have found some "good" hosts as well:
123HostMe (now Fast Net) http://www.fast.net/
and my current favorite
Aletia http://aletiahosting.com/
And those are my stories, and I'm sticking to them! ;)
