I think this speaks for itself ;)

To me, it is just skipping the middle man. If business.com was put up for sale, the price would be that or more, so what's the difference. Outrageous domain sellers, outrageous registrar, meanwhile, business.com isn't teh hottest name on the net and to be honest, I've never once thought about going there, so they'd still have to advertise it just the same.

I will mention that this is not a ripoff. This is something for sale at a high price, you may choose whether or not to purchase it at that price. Just because someone offers something at a pricer higher than anyone thinks is reasonable doesn't make it a ripoff.

I could be missing the point, but I think a lot
of these newer domains, .tv, .info, .biz are not
going to do anything like what their proponents
think.

Especially .tv - nothing but opportunism. I think
if all this came 3 years ago it might have gone
somewhere, but not now.

As search engines continue to improve, the actual
domain name is less and less important.

.com
.net

is still the best in my opinion.

But yet, digital.tv reselling.biz cable.tv sound better than digital.com (assuming it's for digital tv), reselling.com (you can say the Reselling Business :D ) and cable.com (we sell cable.tv, couldn't say we sell cable.com). It gives a better look, other than that...

Me : Ma, what's digital.com?
Ma : It's a website.

Ma : It's a TV.

They should quit the gimmicks and marketing hype over these TLD's and cut right to something realistic and far more legitimate.

.inc .corp .llc .ltd .plc  'Nuff said!

I don't think they're marketing to businesses anymore, but aiming for cybersquatters and domain brokers.

all the new tld are pretty much useless... as some others have said they need some better ones. but above that I really think they need to just make some rules and actually inforce who and what can use domain names.

my top 3 wishes

1) all adult sites would have to use a .sex or .xxx tld.

2) no squatting. any domain that is registered must be used as a "real" website within 90 days (real being defined as a useable site with information and that the only reason for exsistance is not to sell the domain)

3) sorta a crazy one but :D any website that uses a common word sould contain atleast 1 page with information about that word and/or links to where to find information. here's just a silly example but sun.com should provide information about the sun! so when school children are doing a project on the sun and go online to find info, if they type sun.com becuase it would seem logical to go there they would actually find some info! :)

When .TV was launched way back when, all my pals in broadcast/digital video raised an eyebrow over the possibilities only to be soured by the increasing yearly fee's and that many people couldnt remember the .TV extension.

3 things so i can contribute some :spam: (Or should i have made it 3 posts? :cartman: )

Sex.tv was for like 3 mil a year from what i recall, and it was registered.

I saw wirelessnetwork.tv for sale on Ebay a while ago, going for 100 million dollars! There were 5 bids, but I think that was the owner himself.

I saw a website the other day, i think it was just a scam to get your credit card, where you could get ANYTHING.ANYTHING you wanted. So like asdf.jkl, or web.host . Stupid me forgot to bookmark the sucker :bawling: .

took a quick look and it was 10 million. he's got it at some domain auction house. this domain name owner is a fool. the name is not worth even 500000.

I like the .tv dimain section. I think that alot of the stupid squaters would not risk $3000 on a "decent" name if they know that it's going to expire within 1 year.
