Someone asked..

"
I have a domain and a DSN accoutn setup at CentraInfo. Now I want mail forwarding so that ..

x@mydomain.com forwards to x@anymail.com
y@mydomain.com forwards to y@anymail.com
allother@mydomain.com forward to z@anymail.com

What would be the MX record structure for this type of a setup? Any help is appreciated! "

I thought u guys might be able to help

The MX record just informs the mail server sending you mail where to contact.

You have two options:

1) For mydomain.com - MX 10 mail.anymail.com
Then on the server handling anymail.com, enable it to accept emails for mydomain.com, and add the appropriate email adresses to the accounts.

2) For mydomain.com - MX 10 mail.my-redirect-server.com
Then at mail.my-redirect-server.com, set up rules so that if it receives emails, put them in a queue to forward to the correct mailbox.

2 is more scaleable, as you just add rules to one server. 1 is easier to set up, assuming your mail server can support emails for multiple email domains.

What inwks is perfectly correct. You can also try out a service that offers mail forwarding. ZoneEdit @ http://www.zoneedit.com offers such a service and IMHO offers a superior service to Centralinfo. I use it for 5 of my domains and am about to pay for extra. Money well spent, I say.

At zoneedit.com, you can manage the DNS settings and also manage the forwarding (web and email). It's web based, easy and user friendly. I presntly manage 3 domains through them. They are just terrific.
It's free for upto 5 domains. Others charge about $15 per month for a similar service.
If you know DNS administration and can do it yourself, try the Granite Canyon public DNS at http://www.granitecanyon.com (free for any number of domains).

Centralinfo is not very easy to use for managing domains. Still haven't figured out how to setup mail forwarding ...

I will give zonedit a try ;)

To make the service of http://www.zoneedit.com complete, here's something I would like to see from them

1. Ability to set up meta tags and page title along with their cloaked URL forwarding.
2. Virtual nameservers.

Are there any other services that provide all these?

I tried centralinfo.com but could not find anything about DNS services on that site. Is the URL right?

I'm not a technical person, and this proves it... I thought an MX Record was a stat on a Pokemon Card :>

stuartwright, beware! installing a Pokemon Card on your motherboard may fry your CPU! :D
