Hello,

I have a new server that I am setting up. I am going to load redhat 7.1 and cpanel3 on to it. I would like to know what you guys would recommend that I make the partitions for optimum performance. Here are my server specs: Dual p3 1ghz, dual scsi raid 36gig hard drives, 60 gig backup drive, 1.5 GB ram.

I do know the basic partitions that should be made (/swap /home /usr /var /etc and more), but am unsure how big I should make each. The scsi drives will be mirrored, so there will be only 36 gigs of "main" hard drive space. (the 60 gig drive is for backup).

If someone could send me the partition specs of a similar server, or suggest what I should make my partitions, it would be Great!

Thanks!
Matt Pope

make the user partition

/usr/ 5 or 7 GB instead of the default 3

and give a little more to the /swap

/usr : stores logs, and it can get very very big, especially if you have users who use alot of resources and alot of traffic

I have heard that the swap should be 2x the amount of ram that you have. Is this true?

yes thats recommended.

I wouldn't have more than 512mb of swap, since you have 1.5gb ram. It would be rediculous to have 3gb of swap.

I also suggest you that you should not create the size of swap partition more than 512mb.
The maxm size of swap partition can be 2GB.
