View Full Version : What features do you want in a billing script?

I was wondering what features you have, and would like to see in a future billing script. Radical ideas, logical ideas. Ideas that you think are common sense but no one has put in. Also, what features would you like to see in a total, Billing/Customer Management/Support Desk/Reseller-Affiliate application. So like the total package. What features would you like to see for a total package solution?

Any help is appreciated, thanks all!

Take a look at billadmin and copy its features as it seems to be about the best web based accounting software out there, ubersmith also makes one.

I dont know if youll get a whole lot of feedback, seems like theres a new person in here every week planning on doing some kind of control panel or script or billing app, asking everyones input and then nothing comes of it.

I currently run billadmin (one of the first non site5 customers too, hehe) and its great, I love it. I just want more customizability and more features. My real target is the Reseller part of the script. I want a nice easy way to take in reseller orders, and setup thier accounts. Billadmin doesn't currently provide that. We have features in mind, we just wanted to get ideas from you all because we intend to sell it to you all later. ;-) So might as well put your feature ideas in now rather then later I think.

But yea, I suppose that a lot of people come here and ask for feature ideas! haha.

Any one else? :)

Well if you want to have an edge from the other billing scripts, it should be compatible with "Worldpay", "Revecom" and the like as none of the others are compatible with this type of merchants.

This continues to be one of "those" topics.... but I'll toss my 2 cents into the fountain ;)

I think options are a big thing. Some people want to be able to add different billers, such as paypal, worldplay, etc. Some people don't want to deal with 3rd party etc. The best script would allow you to almost customize it on the fly, with the ability to turn on/off services as you want.

Obviously you can't build a script that meets *everybody's* needs, but I think that if it is a total end to end solution, you have a better chance of making more people happy.

The system should be able to:
-self serve new accounts (different approval levels, of course)
-have secure, automated billing
-have a support ticket system integrated
-and a knowledge database too
-maybe your own referral program "a happy customer, they say"
-an area for thier "own" links (how to's they have found, etc)
-be graphically customizable

You could probably start with something along the lines of phpnuke/etc and make it a "start" page for the resellers clients. Multiple links could take them to different parts of the system... help desk, billing/balances, etc. A link for special upgrade offers and tutorials that have an "upgrade your account" spin to them. Just as long as they only have to log into the system once. Well, that is just a thought.

My personal rant lately has been with alot of host that want to sign up resellers, but can't give anything more than basic tech support. When I see an ad for a host that says you can make "X" amount of dollars a month with them, I'd like someone who is selling more than just Unix and "pritty" servers. The total solutions should include everything from a domain resellers API and good solid hosting, to billing and help desk support scripts.
Okay. I feel better.:D

It's late for me, I hope some of that makes sense and is helpful for you.

I don't know how billadmin works, but something I'd like to see is:

Recurring billing, but say your client goes over the limit by a few gb of bandwidth, you can throw that in there for that month.

Or say they want to permanently add 3gb of bandwidth and 5 ftp accounts to their package. I'd like to be able to add that into the payment without changing a general payment plan, just modify that one client.

I'm not sure if somehow that's already possible, but I haven't seen it and it would certainly be nice =)

Hi all!

Ok, so I found a programmer to develop it! Weeee! I'll post more details later, but thats just an FYI.

We're going to chat about the feature layout and what not. The idea right now is to run pricing anywhere from $500 to $1k for it. No monthly fee, no third party server, no paying based on how many users you have, etc. You buy, its yours.

Anyhoo. We will probably run the site from www.mybilling.info :) So check there later once I get the site setup.

Later all!
