Does anyone think it's a good idea to email the hacker and ask him what it would take for them to stop? Do you think this would work and should I even bother doing it?

LoL. What are you going to do, email it to yourself? Then when they check your mail they'll get it?

Wouldnt it just be better to prevent them from getting in instead of asking them not to?

Well he already has all my passwords and he got into my dotregistrar account and has access to all my domains (and all the passwords) so maybe there is something I can give him to make him stop. Think it's worth a shot?

No. Because it wouldn't stop there. Just like any other criminal.

Hire someone that is an expert in the field.

I say yes, email the hacker and offer to hire him to tell you exactly what happened, a lot of blackhats get money that way.

Now would probably be a good idea to change your passwords.

Dont use the same passwords everywhere. The password to get into your computer, the password to your mail, the password to manage your domain, the password to manage your web site should ALL be different...

If thats the case, once you change your passwords, invest in a good firewall. I also recomend a hardware based one...

Firewall's do nothing if you dont have up to date software... Firewalls are not a fixall solution either most are worthless or close to.. Spend your money elsewhere like system admin, there are plenty of good ones on this forum.

another thing, there was an internet explorer exploit out a few months ago. allowing someone to imbed commands into a jpg and ur ie excute them. in this fashsion someone was loading computers with a keylogger that logged into an irc channel on the efnet ircnetwork, i know this because i seen it there were about 40 computers spitting out a bunch of words. this "could " have happened to you

There is a technical name for this kind of thing.... it's called extortion.

Get a server admin to fix your problems, get your passwords changed, etc.

It's not extortion.

The original poster is asking about contacting the hacker, not the other way around.

LCHwebHost, do you have any log files on the server or were they removed during the attack?

LCHwebHost, you said the hacker had every passwords to your accounts, then what else you can offer him? :D :D :D

Do some security jobs to your server and take a legal action.

Blah, take legal action?

No law enforcement agency would give you the time of day on this.

^^^ If by 'get involved' you mean 'not give a toss about' then you're absolutely right. It's the big publicity things that the FBI cares about, busting teen hackers attacking the government etc

If you think your pc has been hacked, disconnect it from 'Net. Use another to find anti-keylogger, or keylogger finder. it basically simulates keyboard presses and scan HDD for files that change filesize.

FIREWALL - It's just a speedbump, not a brick wall. Some loggers use trusted programs (eg IE) to send (eg. FTP) the log files to a remote location.
