View Full Version : ValuableHost is Horrible - My Story
TheMMIz 09-26-2001, 03:33 PM I am gong to be very clear, and only provide factual information in this one :)
I started with ValuableHost about two or three months ago. I even came to these boards and said how much I liked them. People flamed me for it... well I have come back.
ValuableHost has had problems with its control panel from the beginning. Users were told to "wait until the new control panel comes out" for the following issues:
Subdomains - Which were included in the plan
I requested them within the first week I signed up, but have yet to get them
Mail problems (SMTP)
This was almost a daily occurence.
Sendmail Problems
It never worked for me
The server time had been off
MANY people complained about this, and some even offered to change it for him if he wanted to... but no. Try sending/receiving mail and setting up scripts with the time so off.
MySQL database setup
And a few more which I dont have proof of, so I wont list :)
Their support was GREAT in the beginning. I mean REALLY great. But as soon as they got a few customers, support just died. It didn't slow down, it just died. I even registered another account with ValuableHost, but I never got my welcome email... seems as though their billing service had problems.
Well, they FINALLY moved servers. It took them two months to test everything, all while our sites had outages and constant email problems. Well, we finally moved. On 9/15 I was told to change my nameservers, and I did. The files were supposed to be on the new server when everything propagated. NOPE>
Seems as though the person they "paid" to move the files bailed out, and they ended up contacting IntenseINFO.com (someone who has had a non-working site for five months, and a site that has been down for the past week). SO our files were supposed to be moved, and as of today I just got my login information for the new server (10 days later), and the files still are not there.
I finally switched over to VenturesOnline, and Im very happy. I decided to keep a .org domain with ValuableHost (for file storage), and they told me they would set it up three days ago.... three emails later: NOTHING.
Their support team (consisting of one person, the same one who does everything) just doesn't care. Emails MIGHT be answered within 48 hours, but thats no guarantee. I had emailed the support MANY times about a newspro problem I was having. After hours he could not figure out the problem, and then got frustrated and told me that it wasn't covered under support. Well this wasn't just a newspro problem, it was a SSI problem. VenturesOnline was able to answer my VERY simple question in just one support ticket.
This has been my experience, and from what I hear the experience of three other customers (they have emailed me). I have requested a refund, and if I don't get it, I will have to do a chargeback. Its only $26.00, but I didn't get what I paid for, and this is bordering the line of scam.
Just plain out ValuableHost sucks, and along with IntenseINFO they don't take any responsibility for their problems. Well am I just shooting my mouth off without proof? Nah. For a a REALLY interesting thread on the VH forums, go to http://www.themiz.net/vh.html . You can even see HostEXP recomend ***** to a customer who wanted a refund... OH ITS BAD.
Just my 2 cents :)
CLEARVERT 09-26-2001, 04:09 PM For $26 a YEAR???
The reason why venturesonline.com can provide you with fantastic support is because you are paying them $10 PER MONTH or so.
You are paying valuablehost.com $2.50 a MONTH! Thats less the $4.25 /hour mininum wage we have here. I don't even know how valuablehost.com can provide *any* support at that low of a rate.
Think about it :)
You don't get a mercedes when you only pay for a matchbox toy car!
TheMMIz 09-26-2001, 05:18 PM That is right, it was too good to be true. I am not the one who promised 99% uptime and 24/7 support. I even came to these boards before I signed up, and HostEXP had a good reputation, which I find hard to believe being that I was one of his first customers.
$26.00 is not a lot a year, but as a college student, its more than you would think. If I were getting the services I paid for, I would be happy. I would have been willing to pay the $5.00 a month plan, heck, I would have paid more, but it wasn't an option.
Because he charges so little he has an excuse to suck? While I only paid $26.00, some paid a lot more (for bigger plans).
You do get what you pay for, and I am very happy with VenturesOnline :)
HappyDawg 09-26-2001, 07:13 PM I have to agree with TheMMIz on his storey. Mine is similar, except I bought their premium service. Even as of this post (almost two weeks after my sight went down) it still isn't up. I was about a month into there service when they went "*****" on me (yes...I was burned in the great ***** fiasco as well).
I have sinced asked three times for a refund and have been met with silence. I'm sure it's a lost cause now. As was mentioned, the dollar amount isn't large, but that's not the point. If someone is going to provide an advertised service for a fee they should honor the conditions of the deal. I have had good success with low cost providers in the past and tried Valuablehost as a new alternative. Never again.
Last Sunday afternoon I switched back to my reliable providers. Within 30 minutes of signing my account was set up. By Monday morning my DNS had propogated to the net and I was back in business.
As always...buyer beware.
Woof!
method5 09-26-2001, 07:40 PM TheMMIz,
Don't worry, they will give you a refund. I just requested one yesterday and within 2 hours I got an email back from valuablehost and one from paysystems.com confirming the refund. You have to send valuablehost your order id.
Also I thought I would meation that support was alright for me. I never emailed them much but when I did I got emails back within hours.
Regards,
Jason
SoftWareRevue 09-26-2001, 07:48 PM Well, my experience with ValuableHost is quite the opposite of TheMMIz's and HappyDawg's.
ValuableHost has hosted a site for me for only two months, but considering the server migration, I have been quite pleased.
They have been nothing but professional and prompt regarding any service and support issues.
I understand that some sites experienced more downtime than others. But I consider any downtime minimal when weighed against the cost of the hosting packages coupled with the level of service and support.
I have absolutely no reservations about recommending ValuableHost to anyone.
massive 09-26-2001, 08:50 PM Hey MMiz,
I visited the venturesonline web site and i saw their prices but i don't even know if it's per year or per month that they charge. do you know?
Man with this publicity on valuablehost, it's very very bad for valuablehost.
but perhaps anybody who recommends CIJoke is doomed to go this way eventually.
I, too, am one of those people who have praised ValuableHost in the past but I am afraid I could not say the same at this moment. I don't ususally need much support, but my one and only enquiry went answered - not late, plain unanswered. Fortunately, my account with them is only for secondary storage purposes so uptime is less of an issue than it could be.
edude 09-27-2001, 12:15 AM I'm not going to get into any argument explaining everything. I can't believe you actually wasted your time copying the forums onto a html page. lol. Half of your comments are false, some are true. Also TheMiz, after you e-mailed the request that your files were not moved, we have now moved them as you see - http://www.themiz.org. Also, regarding the billing system, you were not billed, so why would you expect a welcome letter? Also we do have support staff, you will notice the difference in support once the new valuablehost design is up.
Thanks,
HostEXP
edude 09-27-2001, 12:19 AM Ahem, we always give out refunds, please e-mail me admin@valuablehost.com.
Thanks,
HostEXP

HappyDawg 09-27-2001, 06:51 AM Ahem back! I have emailed you on several occaisions. As I said before, NO response. I will attempt to do so one more time.
Valuablehost did (does) offer reasonable service. It was the prolonged migration process, the promise of transferring my files over (which never happened). Maybe I got lost in the shuffle...who knows? But from my point of view it left a bad taste in my mouth. I've been burned before...probably will be again. It's my choice to move on and express my opinions/concerns.
Woof!
edude 09-27-2001, 07:00 AM Please send the e-mail to me at admin@valuablehost.com, i admit 1 week of downtime is unacceptable, we were scammed by a company who had promised to do the move in 48 hours, they never showed up, due to my stupidness of prepaying them 50% upfront. But one thing valuablehost doesn't do is scam people out of there money, so please e-mail me with your orderID and i will refund your payment.
Sorry for any inconveniences caused,
Regards,
HostEXP
edude 09-27-2001, 07:42 AM Happy, what is your domain name? or e-mail address? I have not recieved any refund requests so far.
Regards,
HostEXP
JBIZ718 09-27-2001, 08:03 AM Hmm....
Well you have now slammed my company. Can you please explain to me in detail how we dont take responsibility for anything.
We take reponsibility for things we are responsible for... We provide a server, the bandwidth and what not, and have done so with no problems...
Not only that but once we where hired to help for the move we met all deadlines, worked closly with our client to get things back on track and valuablehost will be solid very soon.
If you are going to flame my company in this situation you better start justifying some things.
In regards to my site right now, you dont work for my company, and dont know anything that is going on with the site and what not. The site is not down at all, just getting worked on.
Im not sure what your purpose of throwing me into this, but I want some justification please..
Also its not a scam at all. You paid 26$ per year for the account. Thats very cheap per the market average, and really not a lot of money. I am also a student, and 26$ is a bottle of vodka and a six pack. I guess i dont drink that week...
I have also reported this post, because this should have nothing to do with us...
Joe;)
edude 09-27-2001, 08:05 AM Hello,
Reccomending ***** was a simple joke, let me ask you a question, would you post on a webhost's board asking for reccomendation for *OTHER* hosting companies? Doomed? it was a migration that went wrong, everything will be back to normal soon.

ok well i don't like fighting on boards. so i'm not going to fight with you. but my honest opinion is that your recommendation was not a "simple joke" as you said. anybody who reads that forum will know what i'm talking about.
massive 09-27-2001, 04:01 PM actually... IN MY PERSONAL OPINION
i too have noticed the confrontational attitude that hostexp and JBIZ718 have displayed.
i know you're going to quote me on this.... sigh. i hate fighting. :bawling:
end of that.... now onto something different.
anyways, this has nothing to do with this thread (but it sorta does). Has anybody else noticed that there are a lot of hosts that are purely reactionary. I guess what i mean by reactionary is that some hosts wait till the customers start to complain about having no response to their emails on these heavily trafficked forums. And then they post messages denying that they received such an email or request. It's a reactionary thing.
i'm just beginning to see this trend. i don't know if it's just me or it's anybody else as well. it's a little bit sneaky because denying that an email was received is very easy to do. it sorta "saves face" for the company with a simple denial. There's no way to prove that they are telling the truth or not cuz you can't go into their inbox.
On a happier note i got a free happyface tee-shirt from a web site.

ooo tell me where you got it, i want one too!
massive 09-27-2001, 07:45 PM :D :D :D
i'll put the link in my profile.
it's not my web site just fyi. just in case someone may get the wrong idea...
jiminsd 09-27-2001, 10:59 PM I just went through the past weeks with ValuableHost and found them quite professional in a bad situation. I did ask for a refund when the new system wasn't going to work for my needs and got the credit within a day. I do wish them the best. I believe Hostexp is a honest guy and will ultimately get things worked out.
dcdomain 09-29-2001, 10:33 PM I'm with SoftWareRevue on this topic. Although I'm aware that TheMMIz and a few others had horrible experiences based on their posts in the Valuablehost forums, I've had a pretty positive experience. And when considering how much I pay for the service, I find the service terrific!
Don't count Valuablehost out just yet. They were in a pretty bad situation and although everything for my account is working fine, except for the new control panel (still don't know where to go to setup subdomains, and there is no longer any area to set up accounts and emails) they are still in the process of getting back in full gear.
Best wishes to them...
-satisfied customer...
edude 09-30-2001, 03:59 AM dcdomain, send a email to admin@valuablehost.com. I will send you all the details on setting up e-mail accounts & subdomains.

HostEXP

. . . . . . .Send me a PM with the info.
As an FYI...International Shipments go via FedEx and I need the formatting like this:
Shirt Size
Name
Address
City
State/Province
Country
Postal Code That was ten days ago. I'm certain if you PM'd Damon with that information, he would accomodate you ;)
Magic2K2 10-01-2001, 05:06 PM I have to agree with TheMiz here for the most part. The biggest problem I have is the false claims that are made on the plans. I did not get 24/7 support. I did not get 99.9% uptime. I only paid like $30 for the year, but I paid $30 for those guarantees. Just because it's low-priced doesn't mean I should be ripped off. I have no other choice, but to wait this out because I'm a poor college student who doesn't want to pay more than that. If my site made money, I'd get a better company, but my site just doesn't.
edude 10-02-2001, 03:55 AM Hello,
I even have the e-mail were you were praising the service a month ago, all these posts are made because of a server move that went a little wrong.
biscuitman 10-02-2001, 05:03 PM I'm hoping that since everyone else has gotten a reply from Hostexp that I will also.
I signed up with ValuableHost.com on Friday 9/14 and have yet to receive any emails containing the information needed to access my account. My credit card was charged on 9/20.
I even sent three emails about this problem to admin@valuablehost.com and have not gotten any sort of reply.
My order number was 721376328.
Thanks.
paypaldamon 10-02-2001, 05:37 PM I just sent you a PM:)
AussieHosts 10-02-2001, 07:07 PM Heya Damon
That's for the tshirt buddy
Have you sent any others down under? If not, I'll pay you *not* to send Hostexp one... ;-)
Regards
Gary
paypaldamon 10-02-2001, 07:08 PM Yes, I am afraid that I have sent other t-shirts down under. I am sorry that I couldn't make you guys first:)
