Well you have to admit, we (the public in general) are pretty 'click-proof' these days. I know myself I never even see them anymore, and only poke them to support a site I like. Might add Dynamic Drive is one I'll poke at as it's a great resource.

In general people with any experience online know poking a banner means a bloated site full of crap, that quite possibly will dump your browser into 'blue screen' hell, and mean you lose that *perfect* resource site before you get a chance to bookmark it.... This I know - been there, done that...

I think most people are happy to cover hosting costs with banner these days (if that), and don't expect a profit at all.

Granted if you have a great site, that pulls the number then it's happy days... but with http://www.google.com alone referencing over 1 billion pages it's a rare shot to get a winner.

The rate card for DD is $20.

I agree that banners are quickly losing their appeal on the web. Like akashik said, many webmasters are happy now just to not have to dig into their own pockets to pay hosting. It's a sad state of affairs, and ultimately, all of us- not just webmasters- suffer as quality content disappear.

I'll stop rambling now; this is a web hosting forum :)

It's no wonder that your site DynamicDrive is doing so well. :)

The publisher selling ad space to this rate is cheating himself and should without problems pull at least 1 $ in CPM

0.10 $ almost doesn't cover the cost to rotate the banners :)

Actually, there are plenty of free ad banner rotation scripts around if that's what you're talking about..

Just talking about the bandtwidth for serving the banners and nothing else :)

Actually this deal is not that bad.

I'm going with it :) 4 months worht of advertising... ~9,000 impressions per day is not bad :))

What's the URL of the site offering this?

It's very bad for the publisher...

Just to let you guys know.. I've asked that guy for a refund...

the CTR is 0.003%

I think i'll spend that money by giving customers some discounts.

Is it a ratio eg. Cost To Return perhaps, or something similar?

Click Through Ratio - The number of times the banner is shown to how many people actually click on it.

GeorgeC

I probably wouldn't have asked for a refund straight up, since even with a 0.003% CTR, that still works out to just 3 cents per click (based on the price you paid for the campaign). One concern I would have, however, is the quality of traffic that's coming through, since his site obviously attracts an audience that's very different than the one that is interested in your product.

Multiple layers of forces at work here :)

0.003% CTR is with my 3 clicks...
:)

if it were'tn for my clicks.. i think it's around 0.00000001%
