View Full Version : My experince with interserver.net
I use my server to run VB forums which is quit resource sucker. The moment I saw the prices at interserver I said that's it. Despite, the bad things I heard about there support I decided to go for them after all who needs support with Linux and WHM.
I asked them to name my server "adventure" and it turned out to be a total failure.
1. I got my server after 6 days with one IP only :). 5 days later and after several support tickets and e-mails I got some IPs.
2. I started testing the server and found out that although MySql is up. VB and PHPmyadmin can't use it. First I thought my setting was the problem. But, after 2 days of headaches I found the problem in "my.cnf" it contained 1 line only :). I fixed that with a new "my.cnf" file and after several hours the same problem came again and the one line "my.cnf" file was there instead of the file I created.
3. 8 days after I received the server, all services on it went down for a reason I don't know yet. Again after several support tickets e-mail messages and phone calls to the answering machine :) . The server went up on the 11th day with its root password changed.
4. I asked them for the new root password. 2 days later they sent me the old one :). Till the date I didn't receive the new password.
5. I sent them a message from the e-mail I used for ordering the server, asking for re-fund and cancellation of the contract for the above reasons and they don't know who am I :).
I intend to sue them for the financial and emotional damage inccurd and I wounder what law body deals with such issues.
SFI,
I'm glad to read this thread.
I was just about to sign up for the 1GHz
machine next week.
Can you update us with your current
situation?
For others, is it only SFI who suffers,
or are there any other new clients who
got the same bad luck?
TA.
anto.
SoftWareRevue 09-26-2001, 11:23 AM I seriously doubt you can gain "emotional distress" monies from this.
But surely you should monies payed/lost.
HostingDirect 09-26-2001, 08:42 PM I have had my 1000 mhz special from Interserver for about 2 weeks now and all I have to say is everything has been top notch. The server was up in about 3 or 3 days from order. There have been a couple of items that needed to be addressed but they have been very responsive. Some of the item are also related to me becoming familiar with Webpanel.
I get a response to support emails consistently within 1 to 2 hours. The server and network performance has also been great.
I am really sorry to hear you have had such a difficult time because I have had a real good experience so far.
imediaweb 09-26-2001, 10:46 PM I recently signed up with Interserver about the same time as Curt. I went with their Dual PIII dedicated server. It took about 5 days to get the server online from the day I submitted the order. Given that I submitted the order on Sept. 12, I have to applaud the guys at Interserver for getting my server online that quickly given the circumstances that week.
I have had a few issues with the server, which Curt has been VERY HELPFUL in (THANKS CURT). My first issue was that I could not get an FTP connection with the server, when I could FTP out to other servers, and even a weirder thing was that CURT was able to FTP my server just fine. Sounded like an ISP issue, but I received an email from INterserver this morning to 'Try it Now', and viola, I am able to FTP. I have inquired to what the problem was but have not recieved a response.
Now I am creating namebased accounts on my server, but I cannot get the pages to display after I upload the files. So I am getting them to look into this for me. It may just be me being a newbie at owning a dedicated server, but I feel that I am pretty proficient with setting up accounts and uploading files to take a site live, but this has me a little puzzled.
Overall, I would give Interserver a grade of a C+ to date. It just seems that things a crawling along with getting out of the gate with my new server. THings were not nearly a slow with my prvious dedicated server that I had with my old ISP. I still have my other dedicated server since I do not have all of the accounts moved over to where I feel confident to make the DNS change. I am hoping and feel confident things will turn around, but am going in with the utmost AWARENESS.
If anyone has any idea why I cannot get the pages on my name based accounts to display, your suggestions are appreciated.
peteW 09-27-2001, 08:23 AM Signed up for the low-end interserver.net dedicated server about 4 days ago. It just went live in the last day and it rocks.
Everything works fine, no problems creating name based accounts or uploading, phpadmin and mysql all work like they should.
I've only sent pre-sales questions and they both got answered in less than 12 hours.
Cheers interserver.net
imediaweb 09-27-2001, 08:30 AM I wanted to give an update on my server. Things seem to be rolling right along with help form both Interserverr and CURT. I have my namebased domains working just fine and as I mentioned in my previous post, I believe that things are only going to get better as time goes on, and it seems that that is the case. I am sure that in the next few days, I will have to upgrade my overall grade for Interserver. I will keep everyone posted.
slaker 09-27-2001, 07:15 PM I ordered a server from them and asked if debain could be installed.. yes.. (friday 21) and then wed(26) they said it was done.. well after logging into it I saw it was redhat.. aparently Mike who I talked to before didnt let John the person setup my server know any of this.. . they said opps no problem let us fix that.. we shall see what happens.. also when they send out the email letting you know its done, what ip,etc.. they have the root password in it! not good at all..
See for you self What was the story in my case :). I hope these ticktes will not be deleted or edited.

I have server with interserver from last 3-4 months. they are very helpful in providing support and system runs just fine.
I think there may be problem with your server and I am sure they will solve it.
Also they allot me ips in less then 12 hrs. Regarding your claims when you signed up with them you have agreed their policy agreement which does not allow you to sue them.
I will continue to recommend them.
neon,
I was speaking about my experience here and I supported my story with evidence. If your read ticket 9500 you will see that I got the IPs after 4-5 days.
I am not a hostile person by nature. I run a business my self and I know how ugly is negative publicity. But I was forced to put this post because of the trouble I had with them.
A nice person from interserver called mike came into the picture and his cooperation is appreciated. He gave a free month which is of no use to me because I already made a contract with another host. I just want a refund.
The server I had with them is just like a dream if any body is interested he can contact them for it.
US$370/mo for Dual PIII 1000, 2 Gig of ram , 18 gig SCSI2 IBM drive, 80 Gig of data transfer on VDI.net and although VDI is a small center but it is the fastest I've seen so far.
HostingDirect 09-30-2001, 07:32 PM I am glad to hear Mike stepped in and tried to make things better.
slaker 10-01-2001, 04:42 PM Mike got it fixed the next day and everything is working great.. I have a request in to get about 10 more ips.. so we will see how that goes..
The last chapter so far :)
After consuming 10.54 megabyte out of the free 80,000 megabytes data transfer allownce that come free along with the server.
I was charged an extra US$120 for data transfer overage.
quazi 10-07-2001, 03:42 PM Ewww I actuaully know people who work at interserver.net
and yes their support is a little slack, it took a week to get the accoutn setup, and GZIP compression still doens't work.. it's been 6 months.
good thing i get it for free :o
I have both good and bad experiences with them.
I got my server real quick, just a day after I sent my order. Everything is great. IPs are allotted within a day after my request. Problems are solved promptly. I even asked them to upgrade my system, Apache, Perl, PHP etc... And they even did that with me! Wow...
However, I have problems in billing this month. They sent two invoices to me. One is $220, which is the P3 1ghz deal. And another is $820, which is the p3 1ghz deal plus 200gb extra bandwidth. Adding them up, it's $1040! Hell!!! I ordered only one server and not two. Other than that, I didn't even order for extra bandwidth and my bandwidth limit is not even near to the limit. I am not suppose to be charged for the extra bandwidth.
So I sent a e-mail to their sales department. I got no response after days. So I sent again to sales dept. as. Then to support dept. a day after. Ok, there's still no any sign of them replying my ticket. And again, I sent a mail to both dept. and request for a reply for my ticket. I just sent it, so we will see if things work out for me.
If anyone can help me out, it would be really grateful. :)
arrty 10-09-2001, 10:19 AM Hi all,
I am in a hurry so can't go into details. I have bugged Interserver for the past 45 days and have found that they are great people. I know that won't matter if your server is down but just wanted to let you know that they have bent over backward for me and many of their clients and fixed impossible things for s for free. They respong quickly (less than 120 mins) and are very experienced. They gave me IPs in a couple of hours and once when they ran out of IPs they gave me 4 Ips and told me that I would get the rest later, which I did in 20 hours.
They installed extra software for me free and even helped me with one of my server which is hosted by some other host.
Conclusion: They are not a huge army of people, I mean they have few people and that is why at times they might repsond slow but they always respond to tech support e-mails and fix everything.

Do you mean mod_gzip? If so, yea ... I too have problem installing mod_gzip on my server (With WebPanel). But I got it to work, you need (or let them know) to rearrange the order of the modules loaded.
cheers,

I am none native speaker and all this time I thought my english is some what ok. This was till I started dealing with interserver staff. Can any body explain to me what do they mean by their last post :) "you were not changed".

Dear, -
What about the re-fund because of the problem that prevented me from using the server???????
What about charging Extra money for bandwidth that have never been used?????????
6 - Tech Reply - 10/6/01, 12:55 p.m.
no refund no extra charge. i offered you 1 months free hosting. you did not want.
7 - User Reply - 10/7/01, 3:46 a.m.
I don't need the free month because I was forced to contract another host.
I didn't understand your last post about no extra charges. Even if you don't want to refund me, I agreed to pay $370/mo for the server when ordering. Why was I charged $460?
8 - Tech Reply - 10/8/01, 6:22 p.m.
you were not changed
dektong 10-09-2001, 12:00 PM Do you understand what a typo means? changed -> charged? As simple as that. I appreciate you sharing your experience with us, but you start to raise an unimportant issue (typo in this case) and that's just sickening
cheers,
I didn't force you or anybody else to share my point of view. So, don't think by using such offensive language you can change the facts.
Don't just consider the typo, look at rest of the whole thing. Did I get any explanation from them about extra charges?
"It is like that" and I am forced to accept it and forget about all the loses incurred by because fo them. Today it is me and tomorrow it might be some one else.
dektong 10-09-2001, 01:19 PM why can't you do chargeback? As easy as that!
cheers,
imediaweb 10-23-2001, 11:18 PM Wanted to give everyone an update on my Interserrver experience.
It has been a little over a month since I have had my server set up by Interserver. I have taken it slow in getting all of my accounts moved over but it all seemed to go relatively smoothly. There were a few email issues, but it seems that we have got them all worked out. There are still some minor issues with the server here and there, but nothing to major to report.
I believe that now will be the time that I will be able to really put things to the test now that I am operating fully and relying fully on my Interserver box. Now I will be able to monitor downtime (if any), email hiccups, or any other situations that could happen, but it seems that things are running smooth so far. We will keep everyone posted.
