I found out today - when signing up, on behalf of a client, for a shared hosting account - that Tera-Byte is no longer using Cobalt RaQ's for shared web hosting.

Hum.

I'm throughly dissapointed - no reason was given as to the change, nothing was mention on their site and when I signed up for the account I expected to usual 'default email' with details of the account on a RaQ.

Things have changed.

They're now using Appliance Servers from a company called Ensim (www.ensim.com).

Does anyone know any further details concerning this change? Thoughts?

Does anyone know of any other cheap HSP's still using Cobalt's?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

if you do a search here you will see i posted we were going to no longer use Cobalt raq's as a shared hosting platform. the WHY is easy they do not work for that type of hosting
-logs dont work
-email drops constantly
-usernames and email aliases are constantly missing
-asp constantly overloads the servers killing them
-mysql also overloads the servers killing them
-cgi processes if written incorrectly will infinite loop the server to death with very little control we can add to correct it
-the admin pages tend to disappear
-the patches cobalt sends out are not tested properly and more often than not cause more problems than they fix
-the security on the servers is poor
need i go on?
the bottom line is they are not the best environment for shared hosting. Tera-byte is working on becoming ISO 9001 certified in order to do that we need systems and servers in place that do exactly what they are suposed to do, not what they are suposed to do sometimes.

off topic, how do you plan on making money on VDS's at $69.99/mo with 50 GB's of transfer? Also, stating you buy in bulk and get a huge discount is a load of C*** with Ensim. I know. They sell to even their large customers at very similar rates for the small guys, ~$25/VDS.

Just curious if you know something we don't.

Hum. Ok. Fair enough - I didn't see the original post you made but I've read through it now.

Will you be moving ALL the existing VH's on the the new Ensim platform? If so - is there a time frame for the move?

... I've had a look at Ensim's site- demo'd the new interface. Seems ok. Look forward to playing on a VH from you once Brenda sorts out hunterweb.org ... heh.

Appreciate the quality of your services and the superior support backing them.
