View Full Version : Cpanel - Where???

Hi,

Does anyone know where you can get Cpanel/WHM for a reasonable fee? The server isn't going to be located in one of the distributor's (burst, site5, etc.) datacenters, so I'm having a hard time finding it for less than $90/month (which is unreasonable)

I really like the look and featureset of cpanel, but I hope they revise their pricing and methods of distributing, because not everyone wants to pay $5-6/GB in VDI or Burst.net's datacenters, and if you don't colocate there, the cost for Cpanel is double--It doesn't make sense to me.

Any help would be really appreciated. :)

Thanks!

We only charge $3-$4, NOT $5-$6 for bandwidth.

My apologies, Sean, I read something wrong somewhere along the line. :) VDI is also in that range, I was looking at their dedicated server bandwith pricing, which was in the ballpark of $5-6.

Nevertheless, according to the burst.net homepage, Cpanel is $35 in house, and $99 external. I'm not really familiar with Cpanel, so please know I'm not making assumptions and trying to put you on the defensive, but that's more than double the price for external. Is there something I'm just completely missing? (I do miss things every now and then..lol) Or is it more or less a courtesy to your in-house users? $99/month just seems a little unreasonable to me, being that equates to $1,188, which can be several hundred dollars more than the cost of an unlimited domain license of Ensim and Plesk (though I don't want to get into the ensim vs cpanel debate.)

If you wouldn't mind, maybe you could answer a couple of questions for me? :) How does the whole Cpanel licensing process work? Would I actually get a copy of the software, or is it installed by a distributor, and I just get the pleasure of renting it.. ;) The main reason I ask is, I've been testing several different CP's (ensim, plesk, SHC, etc...) and being as my experience with Cpanel is somewhat limited from an admin standpoint, I would like to demo (or even purchase) Cpanel, and install it myself on an internal test server (DNS equipped, etc..) to make sure I've got a good handle on it before going live.

Thanks Sean, I appreciate it.

From what I've seen, the $100 is somewhat standard, but hosts do offer internal discounts (not only Burstnet).

Pwebtech does it for $60/month if you co-locate/rent a server with them.
