The Prohacker 09-25-2001, 04:25 PM As I remember it was formed from students who didn't like the current government. And since the democratic government didn't like us, we under the table paid the taliban money and weapons to help them fight the Soviets and the current government....... In essance, we made the taliban.... kunal 09-25-2001, 04:33 PM Originally posted by The Prohacker In essance, we made the taliban.... ironic isnt it? thewitt 09-25-2001, 04:42 PM The soviets had already pulled out of Afghanistan when the Taliban was created. The Soviets pulled out in 1989. The Taliban was formed in 1994, when they swept the legally elected leader out of Kandahar, and quickly overran southern, western and eastern Afghanistan. The Taliban overthrew Hekmatyar, who was the leader of the rebel faction supported by the CIA. They are thugs that demoralize and demean in the name of Islam, seeking power, as thugs have done for centuries, through oppression and the death of anyone who disagrees with them. Do some independant research and don't quote the popular press. They are incorrect with most of their history of the region. -t Planet Z 09-25-2001, 04:42 PM Indeed. Our buddy bin Laden was actually trained by the good old CIA. Walter 09-25-2001, 04:51 PM Originally posted by Planet Z Our buddy bin Laden was actually trained by the good old CIA. Maybe I am wrong but I don't think so. And may I quote thewitt? The Taliban overthrew Hekmatyar, who was the leader of the rebel faction supported by the CIA Hekmatyar, not Bin Laden. Jedito 09-25-2001, 05:52 PM Originally posted by Walter Maybe I am wrong but I don't think so. yes, you're wrong, Bin Laden, was trained, supported, and financed by CIA to expell Soviets from afghanistan. drhonk 09-25-2001, 06:11 PM Can I make something clear for few minutes. Taliban was created after the Soviet retreated from Afghanistan. When the Mujahadeen were still fighting the Soviet, lots of parties came together and joined the Mujahadeen to fight the Soviet in their so called Jihad War against the Communism (Atheist), the first enemy of the muslims. One of the parties that came to Afghanistan was Osama Bin Laden and his intention was to help the Mujahadeen using his own multimullion dollar money for medication and childrens that lost their parents in a war. The United States also helping the Mujahadeen by sending some weapons to fight our cold war enemy, the Soviet. When Soviet finally lost the war, a legitimate goverment was established which consist of a lot of groups. One Islamic Fundamentalist Group was established and called Taleban. Their goal is to build an islamic nation with islamic law which is based on the Qur'an. Some how they took it too far .. and civil war broke up. Few years later they took over almost 95% of all Afghanistan until today. I hope these informations will help everyone here.. hehehe... if any of you need to know how and why Osama Bin Laden gets to hate the United States so bad .. I can do it on the next thread. ** All informations are gathered from different media such as, CNN, History of the Afghanistan ( forgot the name of the book ), History Channel ( my fave ), etc .. :) thewitt 09-25-2001, 06:25 PM Yes, according to a Middle eastern analysist named Hazhir Teimourian, bin Laden was trained by the CIA in the late 1970s, early 1980s, as leader of the Maktab al-Khidimat, one of the rebel factions who were fighting the Soviet occupation in Afghanistan. The CIA has never acknowledged this directly to my knowledge. bin Laden is not a member of the Taliban - he is being offered sanctuary and succor by them ostensibly because of his activities in the fight against the Soviet occupation. The first U.S. attack attribued to bin Laden was the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993. Before that, he was an honored member of a Saudi family helping the Afghani people out of Pakistan. We had good relations at the time with both Saudi Arabia and Pakistan - so there was no reason not to support and train him in fighting the Soviet Union in Afghanistan. Remember, they were an occupying army at the time. We were only helping the Afghan people kick them out. The result of which was a democratically elected government in Afghanistan, and a new constitution in 1990. Here is an interesting story about the Taliban which claims they were put in place by the Pakistani. http://www.afghan-web.com/articles/story.html Here is another interesting link, that includes a timeline of the history of Afghanistan in recent years. For the most part, it seems to jive with other accounts I've read. http://abcnews.go.com/sections/world/DailyNews/taliban_timeline_6.html -t kunal 09-26-2001, 03:11 AM hmm.. thanks for the links... gonna read them now... i dont beleive how times etc can be muddled up like this.. sheeeeesh!! |
