Hello everyone,

I am about to order (in a day or 2) a server with RH ES and C-Panel (most likely from SM).

Before I begin, just think that I am kind of blank in hosting matters. I have never managed a server/linux/cpanel etc.

I need to give the server information to:

(i) my developer in India to install the sites, and (ii) another server admin company in India to setup/manage/secure the server on ongoing basis.

These are my questions:
-----------------------------------------------

1. After I order the server, what else do I need to do to get access to server?

Is there some account confirmation etc involved before I get the server?

What will I be getting from host (for example some account username/password etc.)?

2. What kind of server information should I provide to my developer and server admin company?

Everything or just some of the information that I will get from the host?
------------------------------------------------------

PS. My questions may seem laughable, but I guess I do need some help here so that I don't end up compromising the safety and security of my server in the long run.

Any advice/comments/suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for your time.

Regards.

"1. After I order the server, what else do I need to do to get access to server? "

Nothing - the company will build/deploy it and email you the password that's setup for 'root'. Then, you just go from there.

"Is there some account confirmation etc involved before I get the server?"

Depends on the company. Servermatrix calls you to confirm it, though that can be negated if you call them to order it or whatnot.

"What will I be getting from host (for example some account username/password etc.)?"

Yup, as well as a cpanel login URL and such. They're all coming in one email, usually.

"2. What kind of server information should I provide to my developer and server admin company?"

If it were me, I'd send a copy of the email to the admin company (since they'll need the root password) and instruct them to create the appropriate userid's and passwords to have the development company use.

About the hardware information, your administrator in India should know about Linux commands. They can check it out by themselves. They just need an account to access.

Hello again,

I have just ordered my 'SuperResellerz' server from SM. Confirmed it and checked out their Orbit site briefly.

As said before I am new (and totally blank) to all this hosting stuff and was kind of flying in orbit when I saw 4 open tickets, but look like its just standard procedure.

Now curiously waiting for the setup email.

I understand as advised by 'David' that I will ask server admin company to create userid for my developer.

Q: Should I create another 'userid' and password for my 'admin' company using the orbit site Or just provide my 'master user id' that came from SM?

Thanks for help.

Regards,

Rick
