View Full Version : HostPro vadmin w/Interland logo
jdulberg 09-24-2001, 04:17 PM I just logged into my HostPro "Vadmin" and it appears that some things have changed since I last logged in yesterday. There is now an "Interland" logo at the top and some of the text is changed.
Just wondering if anyone knows what they (HostPro/Interland)are in the process of doing?
I remember talking to one of HostPro's tech guys several months ago and he said that they were changing the Vadmin around in August but that never happened -- could this be that change?
SI-Chris 09-24-2001, 05:30 PM I can't tell from your post whether you're aware of this or not (you probably are if you're already a HostPro customer), but a couple of months ago HostPro merged with Interland and the resulting company will be called "Interland." That would explain the Interland logo on your control panel.
multipleimage 09-24-2001, 10:34 PM interland is now the owner
how has your service been? still the same, better, or worse?
jdulberg 09-25-2001, 12:00 PM The just put up a little splash page up on the main HostPro site that tells the customers whats been going on. On October 14, they are switching over. All signup's as of yesterday will be Interland accounts rather than HostPro. I noticed a few changes in their packages as well.
My entire mysql system (Freedom 500x) went dead yesterday and a few days before that, several of the db's got corrupted and somehow a 600MB file was created in the /tmp directory which clogged everything up. I'm not sure if this had anything to do with them but getting to the root of the problem took quite a few emails and a long phone call.
Hopefully, this merger will make things better. I was at Vservers when they switched to HostPro and some admin functions were revoked... they better not do that this time.
webfooyung 09-26-2001, 06:46 PM I have several domains with Hostpro and have a few concerns about this merger/buy-out/whatever...
IMO - Hostpro was truly one of the best hosts around. Having gone through plenty of nightmares with other hosts, Hostpro was like a dream come true.
They weren't perfect, but, by far, offered the best tech support, sales people, products, and option combination, I've seen in one company.
This merger seems like a number of steps backwards for them. I'm sure it makes financial sense, but, in this customer's point of view, I wish they had left well enough alone.
Already, I see that Interland does not offer NEAR the amount of hosting plans as Hostpro. Interland's affiliate program is laughable compared to Hostpros. Worst of all Interland packages come with Webtrends, while many of the Hostpro packages came with LiveStats as its stat application (the best I've seen).
I'll hang on to my Hostpro packages as long as possible, since upgrading any portion of existing packages means switching to an Interland plan.
I don't mean to sound so negative, since I don't know a whole bunch about Interland yet. I've talked to a couple of their sales reps and they seem nice enough. We'll see if they can follow through.
multipleimage 09-26-2001, 10:32 PM i do not like interland. i think they may ruin hostpro.
We have had clients that we did some programming for or other services that used hostpro and they seemed like an okay host.
Better then a lot out there.
webfooyung 09-26-2001, 10:53 PM multipleimage,
Can you elaborate on why you don't like Interland?
Also, I have been checking out www.mediatemple.net. They have a great site, at least, and their packages seem decent. Anyone ever utilize them as web host?
Chicken 09-26-2001, 10:54 PM I have talked with many people who really, really liked hostpro, yet they seem to echo what webfooyung said. They are concerned about this merger, and honestly, while I would consider hostpro, I don't think I'd consider Interland, and I'm not sure how seperate they will remain. :(
multipleimage 09-26-2001, 10:58 PM I have had clients who have had problems with interland. They seem to overcrowd there servers and support was not good at all.
webfooyung 09-26-2001, 11:01 PM Chicken,
Well, for all intents and purposes, there is NO HOSTPRO any longer. Since yesterday, there is only one company, Interland. The only products offered are Interland products...which don't really compare to Hostpros basket-full-of-options.
I'm not liking the vibe I'm getting about Interland.
jayglate 09-26-2001, 11:08 PM HostPro bought out interland not the other way around. They just kept the name interland.
Just to clarify that.
Chicken 09-26-2001, 11:09 PM Well, hopefully the only thing that has changed are the plans. Give them a chance. See what happens. Hostpro was always very good and maybe there have been improvements at Interland. One hopes that Hostpro will affect Interland and not the other way around. I've also know people who liked Interland, so don't get too paranoid *yet* :D
Edit: After reading Jay's comments, that is what I had though, but got confused. I hate when that happens, but I suppose the 'taking the other name' is the cause...
webfooyung 09-26-2001, 11:13 PM jayglate,
Yes that's right...sort of. As I understand it, Micron (Hostpro's parent company) bought Interland out.
The Hostpro name is gone. Only a few of Hostpro's original hosting packages have been carried over to Interland.
I wish I could see how Micron is going to benefit from this as Hostpro was apparently the better hosting company.
Ahhh the business-world....
As for me, it looks my trek for a new host is beginning all over again. Eventually, I'll have to add-on to my current packages and that means moving over to an Interland package and server.
jdulberg 09-27-2001, 04:11 PM The biggest thing that is likely to impact my relationship with the new Interland is that they are now capping the number of virtual hosts allowed on the Freedom 500x and charging a bundle for each one over the limit of 50 vh's. Well, I have 165 virtual hosts on my "legacy hostpro" account as they call it. If they surprise me with a gigantic bill, its not gonna be a pretty scene.
HostPro was pretty good to us when they took over Vservers... we got a humungous bill but they ended up slashing the bill because we have been with them for so long.
Like some others have said in this thread, I'm going to stick it out -- but once they start going downhill, I'm outta there. Its gonna suck to move 165 virtual hosts but some things gotta be done.
