Hi everyone,

I'm just about to register a domain name. I have a choice to either do it with Register.com, or to do it at Tera-byte.com.

I'm pretty much decided that I'm going to go with Tera-byte for hosting but i need to know whether you guys suggest that I register my domain with tera-byte as well.

Register.com gives me a price of 19.99 US per year with a coupon. But with Tera-byte I can get the domain for 10.00 US if I also host with them.

However, I'm not certain that I'll stay with Tera-byte forever, and I'm afraid that if I register my domain with tera-byte but switch hosting companies, I'll run into problems.

Do you suggest registering my domain with register.com which is a separate entity from the hosting companies? or with tera-byte?

Thanks guys

:)

Don't use netsol for anything. They are an evil, evil company. Use http://weblaunching.net. They're powered by tucows. It's $12/year for registration, and they put all the controls at your fingertips. You can even change registrant info in real time online. No need for snailmailing documents with public notary signatures. I use them for every domain I register or renew.

It's best to register it separately. You get full control of where it's registered at/through that way, more choice over the price, and if you do decide to switch you won't have to pester the tera-byte people about changing anything. I'm really not sure how they do it though, and they may not do anything like hijacking the name, but I personally would always take a separate road for hosting & domain names.

It's a good thing to have control over your own domains. A (new) customer of my who wanted to transfer the domain name got a notice from his hosting company that they wouldn't cooperate. They said he didn't canceled his account in time, and he had to pay for an extra 3 months + a penalty for the account suspension. As long as he's not paying they won't release his domain. He canceled his domain because the couldn't give the service they promied.

Can a company do this?? BTW the companies name is site-host.com

But the point is, if he registered the domain himself he wouldn't have so much trouble.

tera-byte is a tucows reseller and you have the same control over your domain as you would with any other tucows reseller, the 10.00 domain price is only for hosted accounts if you moved to another host you would revert to the regular price of 13.50
