Critic 12-19-2003, 02:23 PM You can see an article and an artists impression of the New Yourk landscape

So??
I think it is a bit too pointy and i don't like the name that much but thatr's me. :)
Aussie Bob 12-19-2003, 02:26 PM Yes, it's certianly, errrrrr, ahhhh, very pointy. :D
Critic 12-19-2003, 02:37 PM Apparently thereis only 60 storeys of office space compared to the 110 from last time the North and South towers and this replacement is taller. Ther huge remainder is the tip.
I dunno...seems a bit of a shoddy effort to me but it is only an impression i suppose.
Steve Saw 12-19-2003, 03:02 PM I don't have a problem with the name, and I personally think Manhattan could use a slanted, pointy building ;)
Mephisteus 12-19-2003, 05:43 PM its a typical american name, it fits with america, but I hate it (no offense intended)
KDAWebServices 12-19-2003, 05:47 PM I'm sorry, but the name just sounds so cheesy and tacky and a bit disrespectful if you ask me, but I'm not an american so I dunno.
Tux-e-do 12-19-2003, 05:48 PM The picture is too small to see anything
Critic 12-19-2003, 06:09 PM tux-e-do, it is the pointy skewer looking building in the middle of the phto that rises above the other buildings in the picture.
I agree that the name could be seen as disrespectful, it doesn't have any longevity to it. The tallest building in London is called Canary Wharf or Chicago is Siers isn't it, freedom just doesn't suit.
I just think that on a site where such an event occurred it is a poor effort and replacement in name and how it looks in the landscape.

Among the things I don't like about it is that there already is a Freedom Tower: http://miami.about.com/cs/generalinfo/a/freedomtower.htm
Critic 12-19-2003, 06:37 PM Well i know you didn't direct the pont at me but i did echo it, for me i'd say that it could be seen as dis-respectful as it seems a poor effort design wise and the name seems tacky and has no longevity in it; well that's whta i meant.
It doesn't do those that were affected by the events on that day justice but Mayor Bloomberg seems to like it from what i hear.
So there is a tower with the same name in Miami, hmm.
Dan L 12-19-2003, 06:44 PM It looks more like a marketing thing than anything..
Artashes 12-19-2003, 06:47 PM They are beautiful and go transparent at the top (as a ghost) - a constant reminder of the human tragedy.
That day will be with me till I die.

Davros 12-19-2003, 07:28 PM I'm undecided on the name although I do admit it does sound cheesie. But I'm glad to see that they are rebuilding. Allot of people don't like the idea of re-building ground zero but I think it's best. It shows the terrorists they cant win. We're still here and were still as strong as ever if not stronger. If we don't rebuild they have won.
I'm sure the statue of liberty will like the tower ;)
Davros 12-19-2003, 09:09 PM We should give the Statue of Liberty back to France and wash our hands of them.
Seeing as the French seem to be so Anti-American these days. The US and GB have bailed their arses out of 2 wars and then they turn their backs on us and try to promote a US boycott because we defended ourselves.
On second thought the French never had an army worth anything to begin with. So we didnt need them anyway. All they've done during wartime was go in after the bombs fell to loot and pillage.
Netix 12-19-2003, 09:13 PM It looks beautiful. A great way to remember thoughs who are lost. On an even cooler scale: to still hold the tallest building record!
Critic 12-20-2003, 12:35 AM Critic forced to get his splittinghairtrometer ;)
Netix, you say "to still hold the tallest building record", what do you mean still hold as you didn't possess it Far East have held the record for about half a decade or more. The best known example are the Petonus Towers in Maylasia but the one that currently holds the record is the tower "Taipei 101" in Taiwan which soars more than 1600ft into the sky.
Over the past few hours i've heard the views of some New Yorkers and the majorityappear to like what they've seen of the design; well if they are the ones who will have to look at it i suppose it is up to them and their opinions count for more but if you'd be so kind as to change the name, "freedom tower" i mean come on, look at the other tall buildings, Petronus towers, Taipei 101 or in the UK Canary Wharf.
