All I ask for is a link back :-)
EDIT:
I will make an exception since your site is commercial, no link back required however the generator meta tag must stay
EX Must stay:
<meta name="generator" CONTENT="http://www.Acecoolco.com Meta Tag Generator">
sightz 12-19-2003, 01:30 PM Acecool, your meta generator is cool, but the tag:
meta name="abstrack"
should probably be spelled "abstract"
sightz 12-19-2003, 01:34 PM snoopgst,
It might be worthwhile to educate yourself about the ICBM meta tags.
They allow you to define your real-world location in your pages. I have a feeling that many search engines will be using them soon. See http://www.geourl.com
For example, my site CrewPix.com has ICBM tags and I can go to this page to find my "neighbors": http://www.geourl.com/near/?p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.crewpix.com
blackbelt080 12-19-2003, 04:07 PM Keywords are useful for people who do A LOT of searching on the WEB, and getting people to your site quicker. :)

Thanks, is there like a rule on how many keywords I should have? and should I have one for each page in the website?

Two days is certainly too soon to expect any results from submitting the site. That said, submission is also a minor consideration these days -- there are only a handful of search engines that both accept free submissions and are important enough to bother with.
You won't be listed at all, even if you submit your site's url, in search engines like Google unless there are other sites in their index that have linked to you. These days, that's the best way to get into free search engines: get some links pointing to the site and let the search engine spiders find you.
snoopgst 12-19-2003, 07:36 PM so I shouldn't even bother making meta tags? "get some links pointing to the site and let the search engine spiders find you." by that do you mean like posting my url on other sites like how I did here?
nobby nutkin 12-19-2003, 08:48 PM Seems like if you want quick indexing you have to pay, but as said before try and make your title your key words, then list your key words seperated by a comma, links to other sites are the most important,( even guest books can lead to your site being crawled) also another trick is to build dummy pages loaded with keywords on other sites (free) with a meta redirect one of my sites attracts more hits from these than my actual site listing ....remember it can take up to 6 months for a free spider crawler to pay you a visit.
Also you might use
<META NAME="robots" CONTENT="INDEX,FOLLOW">
At the end of the day it's pot luck I have my holiday site listed on it's free url address but not on it's real domain name, it's also listed on another site. I'm still trying to figure this one out and have put it down to url framing, but then what do I know.
Rough guide.
Site Title
(100 characters Max.)
Site Keywords
(250 characters Max.)
Keywords must be seperated by commas.
Site Description
(250 characters Max.)

Meta tags are a watse of time, use H1 and B tags to show spider which are your keywords, also try to find other sites, *related* to your site topic. Ask them to trade links with you. The best ones to do this with are the ones already top in the search engines...

Acecool, your meta generator is cool, but the tag:

Thanks, I will look into it.
EDIT:
You were right, thanks, its been changed.
binchaud 12-22-2003, 08:48 AM Meta tags are a watse of time
Sorry, but I have to laugh here.
Meta tags are ESSENTIAL in search engine trafficking.
You have to use keywords in your content with your META tags appropriately. Not just one or the other.
There are alot of generators out there that can guide you in creating the perfect META tags.

Meta tags are ESSENTIAL in search engine trafficking. Meta tags used to be essential. Then they became heavily abused, and search engines began to devalue them.
Today, they rely on the strengths of their own algorithms-- their ability to determine what the page is about, not what you tell them the page is about.
The keywords meta tag is simply not indexed by Google. Other search engines (Inktomi, for example) have from time to time changed the amount of emphasis they put on that data -- but its value is always minor. The keywords meta tag may be at best about number 20 on the list of things to think about in search engine ranking -- which means for most people that it's off the list of what you'll actually do. If you're only worried about Google, it's meaningless.
There are alot of generators out there that can guide you in creating the perfect META tags. There are a lot of generators out there that can guide you in creating useless meta tags that will do nothing for you, for search engines, or for visitors to your site.
http://selfpromotion.com/pageprep.t?CF=godshall - BIG guide to search engine optimizations. The guy knows what hes talking about. I just went to archive.org and grabbed a selfpromotion.com listing at random. It was from March of 2001 (http://web.archive.org/web/20010301183923/http://selfpromotion.com/). The content is almost exactly what's on the site today, nearly three years ago. But search engines have made a lot of changes in the interim. I also jumped back to Februay 2000 -- the information on meta tags is still exactly the same.
But in the real world, things have changed.
RacingCatche 12-25-2003, 12:08 AM To snoopgst:
Here is my advice, for whatever it is worth.
First try not to use any software to submit to hundreds of search engines. It's a waste of time and money. Focus on the top search engines and the search sites that your users will go to.
The importance is in this order:
1. URL - your domain is extremely important
2. Title - Title should have your top keywords
3. Your first paragraph on the page. Have some keywords on the top of this paragraph. But try not to abuse this too much. Google has recently changed their algorithm so if you have keywords too close together, etc. you'll be banned. Put some link text also, Link text is very important.
4. meta descriptions - DMOZ uses descriptions.
5. meta keywords - most search engines do not pick this up, but I like to put 4-5 keywords here for those that do pick up. (forget the maximum number...it's a waste of time)
Important is pick one or two subjects that are important on that page, and select a few related top keywords that your users will use to find websites.
You are not limited to just having one page. Better to have several pages ready for search engines. It takes 3-6 months for search engines to index your site.
Hope this helps.
