I was just spammed with about 1800 emails, through my regular email address and NOT my web site (too new for that yet).
My question for the pros is this. While I was searching to aee what I can do to prevent future mail bombs, I came accross a couple of places that offer (free) cgi scripts or perl for yoru web site so that email sponges cannot grab email from yoru web site.
Are any of these good or worth putting into yoru web site to help stop spam?
Does anyone here use such programs?
Thanks, as usual,
Mike

Most of the scripts like this that I've come across create a page you'd link to that contains nothing but hundreds of fake email addresses.
That way the spam bots get clogged up with a bunch of junk email addresses. Not very effective in blocking them from grabbing your email, but it'd slow them down.
Your best option may be to not even publish your email address on your site and have a feedback form for your customers to initiate email conversations with.

I looked at some scripts a while ago but nothing seemed simple or garunteed to work.
Instead of mailtos I use this little script:
Anti Spam Script (http://www.assmaker.homestead.com/)
Hopefully its effective.

Almost every site I've ever built has just used a feedback form. Some sites have been up for years without any real growth in junkmail. Seems to be the easiest and still most effective way to do it.
I did see a spam trap a while back that looked pretty good. It was simply a link to a script that began to feed the bot rubbish (a thousand or so addresses), took a quick break, then re-fed it a few thousand new addresses, took a break, etc etc.. It would continue to feed the thing until it had reached it goal, thereby making a full collection list of useless addresses. The name and link of it escapes me right now though.
