I charge different amounts based on complexity. Although i do have base prices.

Templates start at - $350
Full Sites start at - $800
E-Commerce Solutions - $1500

Thats about the base prices that i charge for the work that i do, anything remotely complex, the price is increased.

well take some advice, if your starting to get into it, dont charge a thing.....there are too many new designers entering the market, with lack of skills and understanding, totally saturating everything to do with web design.

Take some time before actually working commercially, hone your skills.......i'd hate to see another new designer coming onto the scene charging for work not worth a penny.

very good advice. I don't plan on charging anytime soon. But just getting an idea of how much I could possibly be making soon. thanks for the good advice

The only issue with not charging anything and getting long-term clients early is that you're likely to continue working for the for free or almost for free... I still am. The problem is the relationship you form with some of them.

Best way is to charge by the hour and before the project give them a estimated amount of time that it will take and if it takes more then they dont have to pay. So lets say you said ah should take me 8 hours and it takes you 9. They only pay u for the 8. I havent used this system cause i dont have a business but it seems ilke one that could work.

What do you think is a fair price to charge for a complete web store site with credit card integration etc. ?

It isn't a good idea to provide specifics about what to charge. It's considered 'price fixing'. You should charge what you're worth, nothing more or less.

bear, i'm stating a base price, it could be more or less.....thats the average of what i would charge for a regular sized (medium) project. Anything smaller i wouldn't do for less than $900 , anything larger wouldn't go for less than $1500........ I dont agree in price fixing, these are averages, Nothing to swear gospel by.

I understand that you were giving base pricing, but to 'secretly' discuss pricing for services isn't acceptable. That's called 'collusion', and it's illegal in the US (and other countries). More info here:

I realize you don't mean any harm or bad intent (and my post wasn't directed specifically towards you), but it's still improper to do.

fair enough bear, and i dont really agree with telling other people how to price things, thats just plain wrong.....

As the original question posed, he asked us how much we charged, i gave him my personal opinion on my rates :}

Thanks

I charge hourly for programming work and design works is based on what is done and the degree of difficulty.

first off all, that law like it says applies to US, and second it does apply to companies... if ur not registered as webdesign company it really isnt collusion.

Nowhere does any law I could find specify you have to be a registered "company". Indeed, where I live, registering as a 'company' isn't necessary to sell web design.
This anti-collusion was specifically US, yes, but similar laws exist elsewhere througout the world.
