Due to a hardware failure in the server your web site was hosted on, we have moved your web site to a new server. Please login to the new server using the information provided below and reupload your files as soon as possible, there where no files that could be saved at our end. If you have any questions, please contact us and we will assist you with this transition.
brandonk 09-23-2001, 11:31 AM These things are not uncommon, I'm sure that if you read your AUP you are responsible for back up.
Shawn (GEcom) 09-23-2001, 12:16 PM I had the exact same thing happen to my account last night, and received the same message as well.
I did get all my files reuploaded (luckily I had recently backuped my whole site), but since all the server paths are different, I spent several hours reconfiguring all the cgi-scripts for the site, as well as reuploading all the files through FTP.
What a long night...
Shawn
Walter 09-23-2001, 02:10 PM Wow, not even an "excuse me"?
kunal 09-23-2001, 04:01 PM sounds like the hard disk crashed?

Bogdan 09-23-2001, 05:07 PM Hope you have your files backed-up on your PC.
It is always clients responsibility to have backups of your web site. No one can be held liable for your own files. If they are important to you, keep them on a separate disk or at least on your HD.
SoftWareRevue 09-23-2001, 07:10 PM Things can happen that are beyond 'anyones' control.
Just reaffirms what everyone's been saying.
If you have a site, and it's important to you, you better have it all backed up. ;)
But, they could have said, "Sorry 'bout that."
I am sorry about that and sorry i didnt add it into the mail we sent out to everyone but it was 1:30 in the morning and i made a typo in the email i sent out as well that no one caught:) our objective was to get all the sites reset up as fast as possible, so ill say it now "sorry bout that"
Steve

I caught it, where should have been were. :D
mybiz 09-24-2001, 12:05 AM Things like that do sometimes happen... We try to use raid systems, but even then if a system file gets corrupt it can sometimes replicate.
Make sure the hosting company does routine backups... That should have prevented this iccident...
:-)
Deb Suran 09-24-2001, 08:22 AM If my host sent me a message like the one quoted here after my website disappeared, I'd move to a new host ASAP. No apology?! No offer of some form of compensation for a problem that was not caused by the customers?! Sure all webmasters should have backups of their websites. I do, and mine includes a 50mb database that I back up daily. Sure hardware fails. But it would still take me a couple of days to restore and check my website, and I would find a brief, thoughtless e-mail like the one quoted here sufficient grounds for moving on.
creepcolony 09-24-2001, 11:11 AM wow my site is on tera-byte and i'm real glad this didn't happen to me. i am backing up my site right now!
Telemetry 10-15-2001, 08:24 PM . delete this post please
tangoking 10-15-2001, 11:52 PM I don't think Tera Byte are in the habit of apologizing. On forums, maybe, but on emails, really. It's good the didn't try to convince you it was your fault. I'm glad I'm out of there. Backups are always essential, though.
