What is a reseller and what are the pros and cons of using one?

Thanks,

In short, someone who is purchasing their resources from someone else who is running the server(s).

Is it a bad thing? No. A lot of providers start out as resellers. Most learn a lot as they grow, to the point where it's feasible to employ some sysadmin staff and start leasing boxes of their own. Some learn nothing and do it anyway as well. :)

Your (reseller) provider generally has the time and resources to offer a more personalised level of service as they're not having to worry about server side issues as much, especially if they're using a good provider themselves.

One downside is that they can sometimes have their hands tied by usage policies that they perhaps wouldn't implement if they had their own "finger on the button". Again, not always a bad thing if any restrictions that are in place are ensuring that everything is running well for all concerned.

Pros - Cheap , less responsibility than having to run your own server

Cons - You can't offer the services you can with a dedicated server.
