If you are "between" desktop virus scanners (e.g, if, like me, you are running XP RC2 and waiting to see how the field shapes up), you can get free -- for now -- PC-cillin scans at http://housecall.antivirus.com/pc_housecall/ . Nice deal while it lasts. . . .
Best regards.

I'm currently using the TrendMicro antivirus product for my W2K desktop. I've looked at and used NetWork Assoc., and Symantec's anti-virus software. (With the use of Network Assoc software being for a period of five years).
In a nutshell, Symantec's antivirus software was bloated, slow and always seemed to get in the way of my normal usage of the PC. Netwrok Assoc. had quality problems, crashing my PC on more than one occasion with a bad update.
Trend Micro, which I've been using for over a year, has been very stable and efficient so far. Updates ahve been solid.
However, I have no plans to "upgrade" to Windows XP with the new Product DeActivation feature that XP has. I change my hardware configuration rather frequently, and I do not want to be required to call Microsoft each time I make a hardware change to have my OS reactivated.

pandasoftware.com also has a free online virus scanner. :) I think they're getting trendy now.
