So, after many years of not playing video games at all (sold the good ole snes way back when) I decided a while back to pick up a PS2 and play some games. I've always really enjoyed platform games like mario, so I picked up a couple - jak and daxter and ratchet and clank. 1st I played ratchet and clank ( http://ps2.ign.com/articles/376/376261p1.html ) and really enjoyed it. Great game, decent ending.
I popped jak and daxter ( http://ps2.ign.com/articles/166/166447p1.html?fromint=1 ), and beat this as well. However, I did not collect all of the 'power cells' that I was supposed to, in order to get a 'special ending'. Specifically, you get to see what's behind a set of doors that can only be unlocked by 100 power cells. I had 90. The game urges you to collect the rest - what a buildup!
Well heck, I tell myself, might as well go back and see what the special ending is. The rest of the game was good, after all. Imagine what the 'special ending' is going to be like!
So I go back, searching for these power cells. Play a few hours, and get 100 cells. Cool! Now I just have to go back to the end level and open that door! What could be behind it? Could it be something to tie into the sequel ( http://ps2.ign.com/articles/454/454132p1.html )? Could it be some ultra-cool mode where you get extra stuff to do later? Who knows?!
So I go to the end of the level, and get to the door. I approach it, and then a cutscene starts playing. The doors open, to reveal...

White light.
Then it goes right to credits.
You'd think they'd have put more effort into a 'special ending'. If I had known it was just white light, I probably would have not re-played those levels, spent that time, to get it completed 100%. How dissapointing.
How about you WHTers - any other videogames you've played with some really, really bad endings? Ones that make you sorry you played it as long as you did? Or just any bad videogame experiences at all?
