Yes, I know of one place -- your own home system or network. Good luck!

Please check the approviate answer:
[_] You confused root-access with shell-access.
[_] You're making a bad joke.
[_] You don't have a clue.

Dear sir or sir's;

As per your directions and request, I attempted to "check the 'appropriate box'", but I found that these text boxes didn't function properly -- even if they are blatant examples, this nonetheless infuriates me, sir!

Myself, as a professional in this field of check boxes, find your lack of functional check boxes to be both unacceptable and appalling -- and I will not tolerate such insolence and incompetence!

I will be warning ALL of my friends, coworkers, employees and their families, to avoid your establishment and check boxes at all costs!

Myself and my family have enjoyed your check boxes for years and were loyal patrons of them, until this recent inferiority of said check boxes.

Sir, I simply can not describe to you, all the hours I spent trying to "check the appropriate boxes", only to find that my hours of frustration were in vain!

My wife is so upset, that she's already on the phone with several very well known attorneys. I have tried to calm her down, but I must tell you, that I'm not completely opposed to the idea of a law suit at this point (the repercussions could be severe!)

I'm just glad that no one was harmed, or you, sir, would be in a great deal of trouble and I would have Federal marshalls' knocking at your door as you're reading this!

Now, I've been in this business for roughly 350 years and never have I witnessed such a heinous and incompetent example. I have sat next to the likes of John Hancock and Thomas Jefferson, as they "checked the appropriate boxes", and they would be turning over in their graves, if they knew of your intolerable and less than honorable (dare I say SCAM) of a business producing these non-functional check boxes of yours!

I respectfully request that you relinquish all authority to creating these "check boxes" to someone more qualified. Failing that, I highly suggest you educate yourself on the proper methods of creating check boxes, to avoid future issues such as this from arising... unless, of course, you want your reputation as a check box creator to be tarnished.

If you ever want to have customers checking your check boxes again, you will listen carefully to what I have said herein, and you will attempt to remedy this situation to the best of your abilities! I did not desire to pen this letter, but you sir, have forced my hand and action must be taken!

Sincerely,
A. Knolyftidyut

Tim, You are well respected around here, and I fully agree with you.
Who knows... maybe it is a "Tim thing",, but I too couldn't get the check boxes to work. I tried and tried, but to no avail. I clicked and clicked, but no check would go in the box. It was verry upsetting.

Not only do the check boxes not work, but they have no lid!
How can you have a check box without a lid !!!

The checks would just float out if they worked in the first place.

I think first thing Monday, I will call my lawyers, and have them call your lawyers. We can't have another Microsoft style company coming out, and not finishing what they started, and releasing their works to the general public.

It is an Outrage!!! We have to stop this guy now, before he puts these busted damn check boxes all over the net.

I encourage others to join us in this fight for properly finished code! My god,,, if we let this slide, the control panel programmers may think they don't have to finish their products either... then it could snowball,,,, and who knows, we could end up at the new car lot looking at cars still in primer, with no wheels, and new homes with no roof !

We must stop the unjust and insane production of non working, finished, and released products before we all live to wish someone would have stood up to these guys in our shoes with no sole on the bottoms!

I can't take it no more... I have to go.

I found the solution! Grab a permanent marker, and draw in a check on your monitor, it works like a charm!

Yeah... sure... JUST GREAT!!! I try it and now there's black marks all over my monitor! Sure, it's all fine and dandy, but then I scroll down, up or to the right or left, and guess what!? Well, go on, guess! IT MOVES!! Some important little information you forgot to tell me!! Gee, THANKS! So, anyway, I mark it again in the new place, and so on and every time I move or scroll, it's not checked, so I repeat and repeat. Now there's black ink all over my monitor!! My mom is gonna be so pissed! She's never going to let me out of the basement now! You've ruined my life -- and my Atari!!!!!!!!!

Now with the newest checkbox technology you can take a piece of our specially formulated paper we have dubbed "Tracing Paper", fill in your checks and move the paper as needed! For only 3 easy payments of 28.95 this wonder can be in your hands and on your monitors! But wait that's not all...

If you ever want to have customers checking your check boxes again, you will listen carefully to what I have said herein, and you will attempt to remedy this situation to the best of your abilities! Ok I've got to ask....

I feel it's safe to assume that anyone who has been in this business for any length of time at all has received a letter of one form or another that looks a lot like the one Tim wrote (which is probably why many of us are STILL LAUGHING!)... and, if it weren't directed at YOU as well as being about YOUR company, it would probably have been just as funny ;)

So, with that said.... assuming you had "Fixed" whatever it was the client wrote the letter about.... what new "Fixed Feature" would your hosting company have today ?

For us it would include: (and I'm being serious (I think lol))

*) A way for CuteFTP to not only receive, but send email as well...just like the Yahoo Search Engine does only without the shopping cart attached <<-- Yes I'm still trying to understand this one

*) A private link to the super secret miracle tech at Network Solutions that allows the site owner to contact the super secret miracle tech from within their control panel. This must be a 24/7 VOIP deal of course and if you're real good it'll have a webcam attached so the site owner can see with his/her own eyes the glory of the super secret mircle tech at NSI.

and

*) Every host's envy -- The AI Web Site Creation Tool that has a special linking device that allows everyone on the Internet to view the images on your web page even if they are linked via c:\MyHomePC\MyFiles\MyImages\MyGraphic.gif And this will work even when the Home PC is turned off too!

Of course...all of the above always worked at "The Old Host" :D

(Disclaimer -- We all love our site owners..!! )

Wow, those are good one's. I wouldn't know where to start. I've done everything from support at ISP's helping people just figure out how to dialin and use email, to some of the more complex things in regard to programming or security or any type of server issues (shared and dedicated servers). So, I've seen quite a bit of the most ridiculous, irate and unreasonable clients you could imagine. Of course, we at JaguarPC don't have clients like that, so I can't say as of late. *L*

I'm not sure where to start. I mean, I can list a lot of things, but there's _always_ going to be something that will upset or confuse someone. I mean, most people are ignorant about technical aspects, because how else can they know? These people, even if they assume things or don't understand, are respectful and appreciative. That's good and that's part of my job to help them. I hate leaving anyone unhappy, no matter what happened or who's fault it is, it's my job to help them. However, there's also the most irrational, insane people you can imagine that live in some strange world of perfection and their world is all intuitive and user friendly to them -- then (drum roll), they discover the Internet, hear there's lots of money and freedom in it and suddenly, everything that used to make sense, now disrupts their lives and they can't possibly comprehend how it's not how they assumed and it's never their fault -- enter law suit threats and cursing (because you can't provide the impossible).

To illustrate, I had a user in my chat site (this unfortunately, is a common thing to happen) that was the most threatening, abusive, vulgar, rude user I've ever seen. I ask the person to stop, they threaten me. I kick them out of the room. They return and continue, I warn them, they continue. I kick them and block them. They email within 2 minutes, telling me that they have freedom of speech, they pay their ISP to get on the Internet, and if I don't let them back into the chat rooms, they are going to sue me. Then, in the most ridiculous and hostile and juvenile manner, they start trying to tell me about their rights, the laws and that I better do what they say, or they are going to sue me and have my site shut down. It's a thing of beauty, I tell you. That's when I really have faith in humans restored. I get all warm and fuzzy inside and I just have a glow to me. I honestly do not know what could be a solution for such moronic people. The problem starts when they figure out how to ask someone qualified to turn on the computer for them and start smashing about their keyboard, until they manage to get some text sent across the 'Net. Once it starts, it's an avalanche.

Therefore, I'm thinking an improvement in my eyes, would be retirement and not having to deal with it. Failing that, some sort of intelligence injection at birth? If not, how about some sort of personality reflection device -- so whatever they ask, no matter how unreasonable or illogical, is responded to in a manner they want to hear and they can understand. Basically, making them their own victim of their ignorance and hostility and will be talking to and reasoning with themselves. Failure of them to comply to their own laws, logic, or rather lack thereof, or not get along or agree with themselves, will ultimately cause them to either implode or self combust. I think, in the end, that is the only solution -- allow them to self-destruct. I shall start development right away!!!
