MCHost-Marc 09-22-2001, 01:44 AM Is it just me or do they have some ...'weird' projects going on? (see http://www.saudi-binladin-group.com/history.htm )
...for example, industrial and power projects, petroleum, chemicals and mining, telecommunications, operations and maintenance, manufacturing and trading, to satellite communications...

His father died in the 80's, but the current managers are family members.

MCHost-Marc 09-22-2001, 02:54 AM This could be interesting in where to start searching for Bin Laden's $$$: http://www.saudi-binladin-group.com/bankers.htm
You would think that a company worth $10 billion would have a better looking web site, no?
http://www.binladen.com/ ... Conspiracy? It's a construction company.... they build and fix buildings... I can't imagine any link here whatsoever :pimp:
scott99999 09-22-2001, 03:12 AM Here is an article originaly from The Guardian, September 21, 2001 which mentions some things, BIG.

"Perhaps the oldest business relationship is with Saudi Hollande, part of Dutch bank ABN Amro, which has backed the company for 70 years and, has a watching brief. It yesterday returned to the US authorities to confirm the company is not on any blacklists. "

Actually, Bin Laden's family owns this construction company that seems to have a lot to do with chemicals and satellite communications ( see http://www.saudi-binladin-group.com/history.htm ).

Heh, so who wants to do their site then try to demand payment? Not a customer I'd want in a foul mood that's for sure.
re: money.. I heard somewhere Osama is one of 50+ children, and has a personal wealth of 200 million or so. If they all have that kind of green, that's quite a pile. Adding business interests, government donations and support, to that as well, the total goes up. Not someone wondering where his next pair of socks are coming from that's for sure.
Come tot hink of it (back to the design bit), just imagine trying to add that to your portfolio... somehow I don't think it would garnish a lot of extra work, though your own site might end up on CNN.

Oh well...
alchiba 09-22-2001, 01:19 PM The bin Laden construction company is either the largest or one of the largest in the world, and I'm sure has interests in other industries as well. The father started out humbly enough as a bricklayer. It's a very large family, with Osama being the black sheep and pariah. He's a degreed civil engineer and trained pilot (as was his father, who died in a plane crash) and nobody's fool.

Greg, I've read this as well, and I think this is one of the reasons it is difficult to infiltrate the organization (ie: plant a spy so to speak). Seems the top levels of the organization are mostly relatives, etc., and I get the feeling planting someone isn't easy.
Dogma 09-22-2001, 02:28 PM very interesting Colin...
Just to let y'all know, the Bin Laden family has disowned bin Laden and aren't giving him money...of course he does have a bunch from before though...

I was about to say something about it looking like a website circa 1996, then looked around a little more and found stuff that sort of dates it. The newsletter section mentions construction of the Al Faisaliah Centre "with completion scheduled for 1 April 2000," and the Sports News section states that SBG's cricket club won the "coveted Basem Cup" on April 24th, 1998.
Followed this link, too, to another cheesy outdated site belonging to an organization that could afford to do better: the King Faisal Foundation at http://www.kff.com. Once you get past the bloated applets and get to the home page, you find a link to the 1997 annual report.

Out of business? :D
toma1708 09-24-2001, 12:13 PM Hi,
As far as I know, the web site mentioned in the previous messages is the official site of ben... group. They were "official" contractors of the Royal Saudi family, and practically all the big contacts were given to them. It would be very interesting to find out how much money american companies contributed to the Bin Laden family fortune.
Another fact (which seems to be occulted by US media) is the fact that OBL was trained and supported by CIA during the Afganistan war (of course, together with other chiefs of the Afganis from that period). A information published in the french journal "Le Monde" stated the financing of weapons and morphine base traffic starting from 1980, by the americans (i.e. CIA). It would be interesting to find out more about this topic (if you have some links about this please post them).
In any case, my opinion is that the tragic events from New York are caused by the lack of ability in the US external policy and the "partial competence" of the intelligence services who supported a MONSTER without being able to control it or anihilate it when needed. And I hope that one day, somebody will answer for this.
PS. It is difficult to choose between a policy based on interests and a policy based on principles.

Chicken,
so you feel slapping on a beard and turning up to their place with a banana cake claiming to be a long lost cousin won't work? Shame, I was planning on doing that too... :)
