Keep it, but maybe tone it down. Earrings on men are becoming more and more accepted ... even in the professional world.

Hard to tell mate, I would need a better picture to see if it suits you or not. Right now it doesn't look too bad, but either way it's fully upto you, do you like it?

Depends on the professional world...I'm in corporate finance for a fortune 500 company and an earring would not be accepted or allowed but that is in the boring world of accounting. How old are you? If you're young and in school enjoy it you'll have plenty of time to fall in line later on. I wore an earring from age 16 to 21. If you're a professional working for a big company I would loose it since it won't help your career or at least ditch it during working hours. If you work for hip young small company then I would think it's ok. I couldn't tell from the pic on that specific earring since it was blurry but it looks fine.

Looks fine to me. But yeah, ditch it when you are job hunting and/or when at work.

Are you kidding me? Come on, people are over that... and if not, they should get over it. It's the work that you deliver that matters, not what you look like....

Anyhow, if you have it, keep it... if you don't get a job 'cos of it, then did you really want that job in the first place?

Well because people still have common misconceptions related to piercings I would recommend you take it out also. If I am at a clients location for the first time I usually don't wear them until they know me ... and that's when I break out the big guns ... lol

I suppose it depends on how bad you need and want a job.

Yeah, it would be NICE if it didn't matter how much metal or body art you have showing on you, or how you dress, or how you look in general, but that's just not how the real world works. In the real world, how you look does matter VERY often when you are job hunting or hoping for a promotion.

I got my left ear re-pierced when I was 17 after I graduated high school and I haven't went without an earing since. Can't even remember the last time I took my earring out to be honest, darn thing's been in there like, 5 years now I guess.

I don't want to work in an environment where someone would give a flip about a freaking earring but my insuitability for the "stricter" work environments I've mentioned before (ok so I'm a crappy employee to have if things like dress code or meticulous grooming matter).

One of my old bosses made me attend a formal ball for his christmas charity drive (bring a toy for needy kids, and eat and get drunk and dance to a live band). So I bought a nice new pinstriped suit and dyed my (dark brown) hair white, goatee too. Just my way of "doing what I was asked but still letting it be known I didn't really want to".

I have had an earring since i was 18 ( late bloomer i guess). That was 16 years ago.

In all that time I have only removed it for miltary service.

I work in a business casual dress code type of place.

Shirt, Tie, Dress pants and Shoes.

I get more comments on my cowboy boots then i do my earring.

Its a plain gold hoop, that encirlces the lobe; very thin.

If you want to wear an earring, wear it, but wearing large hoops with decoration on them can and probably will cause you grief.

My two cents.

Keep the earring. They are becoming more and more acceptable at work...especially in the tech world. I think every guy, except our admin, has either earrings, long hair or both. The average IQ in our office is probably about 140. Anyone who would pass giving these guys a job is the one losing out.

so would a Prince Albert be acceptable?

If you don't get a job because of it, yet they allow the female employees (secretaries, etc) to wear them, then you have serious grounds for legal lawsuits because of sexual discrimination. It's that simple. I had the same argument with a number of organizations myself.

Obviously when you're going for a job you don't want to look like a slob, put another one in, a smaller one. You wouldn't go to an interview with holed up jeans and a t-shirt, don't do so with the earring, make it look reasonably professional (put a smaller one in, a stud or something).

Lose the earring? That's a call only you can make man. Personally, I wouldn't, because it's a part of who you are and a part of your personality.

lol, if you are going for a helpdesk position or something else which has a relaxed dress code I would keep it, if you are going to work at a bank or somewhere that you need to wear a suit and tie I would drop it for the interview and put it back in when on the job.

While it should not affect anything regarding your experience in getting a job the fact is some 'old timers' are still this way and will frown apon it for whatever reason.

One of my prof has one on his left ear :D. He is no hippy / playboy style though.

I have one, too and I don't see removing it anytime soon. So I suggest just leave it on.

Tell me something, whats the point wearing one? Might as well not attract attention or cause problems to yourself because you wear one. I'd never wear one. Its up to you.

You should keep it!
here in the uk i've never had trouble finding a job with my eyebrow pierced, and that seems to be more of a problem than ear piercings! Anyway, as long as you're happy and it doesnt interfere with anyone else's happines, it doesn't matter!

I'm thinking of getting my eyebrow pierced and I've always wanted to get my head tattooed like Bam Bam Bigelow (wrestler from old).

Can't wait for my son to get older and ask for tats or piercings I'll be like "just keep in mind, whatever YOU get your dad gets, if you want your dad walking around with blue dyed hair, just GO FOR IT". Of course then he'll go and get something like a Prince Albert and be like "ok dad your turn" and I'll be like "er uhm, never mind what I said".

Edit: oh and as for the quoted part, sometimes it's all about weeding out those people who do have a problem with it, lets you know right away to add that person to your "A" list, (guess what A stands for). If someone is gonna have a problem with my earring I have no desire to deal with them.

Don't take it out, who gives a flying leap what anyone else thinks about it? If people can't accept you for who you are, they're not worth the trouble or time. Keep it!!!! lol, there's something about a guy with an earring that I just find attractive...
