He didn't mention Canada! We accepted over two hundred diverted flights, and we didn't even get any thanks in spite of all the other countries mentioned.

Grr...

How could he forget "one of our favorite countries to our north" (probably misquoted a little, if someone has the exact quote...)

I found it not unique and the plain stuff he was saying the whole period of time. I don't see any action yet. Actions describe words. So far only words.

:wavey: to CANADA

His speech gave a clear indication of our resolve and unity.

Have been fortunate enough to visit Vancouver, Banff, and Jasper. A truly beautiful country inhabited by great people. It goes without saying (though Bush should have): CANADA ROCKS!

I was a little confused on how soon is immediate??
He gave some demands that were non negotiable that had to be performed immediately.

The speech rocked!

Canada Rocks!

On behalf of President Bush and all of us below you, thankx for accepting our 'possibly hijacker infested' air traffic. :D

All jokes aside, when things weren't going all that well here (understatement), it was really helpful to get some of those planes down *somewhere*, really *anywhere* safely.

An abundance of gratitude and thanks to Canada our friends to the north, across the longest unguarded border in the world!

Bush's speech was not intended to be full of details, or specific actions. At this point in the timeline of unfolding events, a presidential speech is more to set the tone and direction of what is to come. As such, he made it very clear that (among other things) we are going to war to eliminate terrorism whereever it may be hiding, that we will hold countries responsible if they choose to aid and abet terrorists, and that you can fight with us or against us. That last point is a big one. It was presented very much as an either or situation, not a lot of wiggle room was given.

What happened with the comments on the Presidents speech thread? The President didn't mention many countries that are in support, also remember that this is not an attack on USA alone but the whole open and free world. So I think that it is very important to not think of this as USA vs. bin Laden fight, it's much more than that, as the President tried to explain in his speech. To me, I think he did that very well.

I can understand that many wants to strike and kill someone (bin Laden) to get the anger out. But the only one that will win in such a situation is bin Laden and the terrorists, simply because it will give them much more support than ever if such an attack is done and many muslims are killed, it will only put more fuel to the fire of hate from these countries and people. This regardless of he dies or not, for bin Laden it's a win-win situation in either case, as long as he has the support from all these muslims in this area.

However, if you can take away the hero glory from him and turn the Afgan people and fundamentalists against him and his terrorist cells, then he will be out in the cold. Such a task can only be done by undermine him, cut off the funding of his training camps etc. this is a long term process but in my opinion the best since if we can get the Arab and muslim world to turn against him, he will simply have nowhere to go.

Thumbs up for ALL countries that are in support for US and an open and free World.

God bless you all

I don't think there will be any big problem. By now everyone if Afghanistan knows how the things are. They have had enough time to go away from dangerous zones. If they didn't it's their problem to get bombed out their holes like rats. That's exactly what they are. This time there won't be any chance like they had before with russia and other countries. This time THEY WILL DIE! :D
