View Full Version : Anyone got $490?? :(
Lonny 09-20-2001, 06:57 PM Well, our host demands a payment of $490 for the dedicated server of http://www.Findtutorials.com which has been serving people with thousands of tutorials for a few years now, - don't offer your own servers because it will take another month only to make the move.. so, I know it's a bit pathetic but unless we'll get those $490 to pay for hosting and I mean like, real soon, we'll have to shut down the site :(
Here is what it looked like:
http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:zsYJJKN-tOc:www.findtutorials.com/+&hl=en
So anyone has any ideas? or maybe can someone donate $200 or more?
I don't understand. Why run the site if you cant pay for it? If you had no intentions of ever paying for it, you should have shut it down.
Lonny 09-20-2001, 07:32 PM Well, I didn't create it a few years ago for profit, and I really don't have time to deal with it, it meant to be for elearning purposes, and from what I understand it is helping a lot of people - 300,000 uniques per month...
So I thought that someone could help me out this month...
Planet Z 09-20-2001, 07:57 PM Don't you make money off FindSP or whatever?
Lonny 09-20-2001, 08:02 PM Yes but these are completely 2 different businesses - 1 is non profit - and elearning... and the other one is profitable but hey I'm just starting with it, and got numerous expenses already... you know what it's like when you have a business...
I was just thinking that since this site has helped so many maybe it will be possible to get a donation once to help the site work..
cbaker17 09-20-2001, 08:05 PM You cant afford it but you think one of us can???
Host it with rackshack.net :)
MCHost-Marc 09-20-2001, 08:06 PM Its running on WinNT/2000, right?
Lonny 09-20-2001, 08:14 PM Windows 2000 SQL 2000 and... ASP :)
and like 25 GB transfer but that could be reduced..
I am willing to trade advertising for those $490, I mean for those 490 your ad will appear for 1 month, and that's A LOT of exposre + i'll give you a free spot on a showcase on findsp.com + a 88x31 button on findsp.com how about that?
cbaker17 - no, but maybe a few of you can make liek a $100 donation each or something like that ;)

Doesnt Findsp.com make enough to donate the funds itself?
Planet Z 09-20-2001, 08:56 PM Seems to me you advertise findsp on it. So it's really not just a non-profit educational goodness-of-my-heart thing.
Well, I've seen, and sent some of our clients, to that site in the past. I'm betting if you were to start offering advertising on the site you would obtain the $500 you require.
Offer a nice rotating banner slot on the top, put a flat _low_ monthly fee on it and watch how many of the hosts, even in this forum, are willing to jump on the opportunity.
It's a good site, with a good domain name, that does get hits. And the market is one that just may be perfect for many of the hosts around here. Add to this fact that the amount you need isn't that much when split up between even 10 hosts each with a single banner. They'd get hits, you'd get your site back online, and the visitors get back what they have enjoyed all along.
There's no reason the site couldn't make money, it's just a matter of whether or not you are willing to let it.
RackMy.com 09-20-2001, 10:20 PM Correct me if I am wrong, but I have seen ads on that site and actually read the "advertise with us" page. You are going to tell me that with that site and FindSP you cannot scrape together $500.00?

Exactly what I was thinking.
Rotate 10 banners for a month, $50/ea. = $500
As Deb said, you should have tons of hosts wanting a spot.
Dylan 09-20-2001, 11:47 PM If you do get $490, how long is that going to last? Won't you need another $490 next month
Lonny 09-20-2001, 11:57 PM NEVER Mind....!
thanks anyway
coolguy23 09-21-2001, 12:05 AM why is the host charging 490?!?!
you can easily invest 2 months of this and get a descent server to colocate for about 5 times less you pay now
