Yeah, uh huh....Big Brother is coming for you. This release raises security concerns and may be flawed, but how far away is a personal ID chip requirement? It's likely the next step. Once the technology is there, and it is, I think the government will push for it. Pets can already have it done in most countries, are we next?
Interesting read either way.

and on this note I would highly recommend that anyone interested in political/tech issues subscribe to Declan's (author of article) mailing list politech at politechbot.com. If nothing else it makes for a good read once a day or so.

I can tell you that they will not put a damn chip in me. Its my body and I can do whatever I want with it. I do not want bionic implants. I want my body to be natural and it should stay it like that. There is no telling what side effects these implants can have on the human body. I wonder if its possible for the chips to transmit cancer in your cells? I just don't like the idea of chips being introduced into humans.

The implants are not limited to ATM cards. There has been much talk of implanting RFID tags into clothing and the like to track shopping habits etc. and target advertising at you while you are in a store.
Take for example the scene in the movie Minority Report where the main character is walking through the department store and all of the billboards are calling him by name (albeit the wrong name). It is the same idea as the RFID tags.
This has been discussed at length on politech.

I like the technology, but I'll make sure it's limited to helping me find my dog, not facilitate follow-me advertising.

If they start putting RFID tags in everything we buy, I might be in the market for some sort of RF scanner. *grumble* :-p

I hate where technology is going also, all this NEW stuff,1/2 of it they dunno how to prodduce stuff right, thats why it sucks!

These movies they try and make DIGITAL,they screw up the tracking and it skips all thru it!!!!!!!

I prefer my analog movies over ANYTHING DIGITIAL!!!!
