View Full Version : The replacement of PayPal (especially for unsupported countries)
georgeb 12-10-2003, 01:57 PM Hello there,
I found a really great site for transferring money through world ,
its iKobo (https://www.ikobo.com/) , they offer both Personal Accounts and Merchant Accounts, I find it great replacement of PayPal, especially for unsupported countries, PayPal supports only a limited numver of countries)
However, even if PayPal supports your country, its better to change it , because when someone wants to buy something from you and you accept only a PayPal transferring, he won't buy from you then ..
this is their address (with my refferer id, hopefully no one remove it):
https://www.ikobo.com/
Regards,
<<CL NOTE: referral id removed>>

Read the rules:
"Participants may not use the Forum to direct others to any pages which they have commercial interests in; these include commission or referral hyperlinks."
georgeb 12-10-2003, 02:51 PM Sorry, I read the rules but didn't note thats one
srprasad 12-10-2003, 07:39 PM I have used the Ikobo services, though there concept is new and attractive, their support is totally out of control.
Infact for some of my issues they have not yet replied at all, and for some issues they responded after 15 days. Even their Live Chat support is not much of use, as you need to keep trying to get someone online.
Anyhow final point is that if they are able to provide good support they can lead the market in the Money Transfer & Merchant Account business.

Umm, where did you get that "fact" from?
cdgcommerce 12-10-2003, 11:23 PM I think Ikobo could be useful for some non-PayPal-supported countries if they can get their act together and fix some of the issues with their service.
Such a system can be very convenient and safe for the recipient. With Paypal, the recipient has to worry as to whether the payment is legitimate. Instead, they can get hard cash using this system. International money orders can do the same, but are also very slow.
I'd also look into www.moneybookers.com - they're really good.
RofyHost 12-11-2003, 05:30 AM thanks all for your wonderful links, I liked IKobo very much, it will be more than usefull for me ;)
ozzie123 12-11-2003, 09:13 AM Well... paypal's innovation is truly remarkable, but they failed in providing a good support (or at least an acceptable 2 days reply...).
Ikobo in the other hand... tailing paypal and slightly better support (but still far from satisfaction...)
rickkumar 12-11-2003, 11:50 AM I see ONE MAJOR drawback in ikobo system:
The merchant fees are just OK,
BUT they also charge your customer an additional 2%.
Why would a customer will like to pay 2% on top of the purchase price when he can use other services to just pay the purchase price?
Does it make sense?
Any comments?
Thanks.
frozen 12-11-2003, 12:02 PM I've never had a problem with paypal support, but then again, I always call them, rather then email.
RajanUrs 12-12-2003, 11:12 AM We may seem some improvements in Paypal since now it owned by Ebay. But Ikobo concept is great especially it requires no verification to recieve money and can be cashed at any atm centre

Actually the %2.99 is part of the transaction fee.
%2.99 + $0.29 per transaction
The %2.99 can be divided among you (the merchant) and the client, or either you pass the whole fee to the client (adding it to the total price the client pays) or pay it yourself (adding it to the transaction fee).

I prefer that persons I do business be verified, whether sending or receiving money, don't know about the rest of you, maybe I am just paranoid.

Take a look at their FAQ:

Similar verification process is done at PayPal.

I second that. It seems as though they grew too quickly.
I'm going to give them time to see how they pan out.
rickkumar 12-20-2003, 12:56 PM My almost final decison on ikobo.com
A piece of crap company. I sent reuests and emails so many times in last 10 days and not even a single answer to my question. They do NOT seem to have support department or may be its just a one-man operation.
Can't belive there is a company out there so much out of control.
Just my 2 cents.
agata 02-16-2004, 08:37 AM I must say that I am very happy with ikobo services! I use them as a merchant for a few months and so far they are grait! As the time goes by I am more and more happy for using them . After the first payment it took me 3 to 5 days till I received their iKard (Visa Debit). Now I am able to withdraw my money instantly after transaction is made, witch is the best thing. Payment posting to the ATM account is far more better than the other one I'm using where payments (check sent by mail) can be withdrawn over the bank counter after 30/45 days. They offers easy integration into any website, auction, or email.
Marlins 02-16-2004, 08:59 AM I have nothing but praise to iKobo. They responded to my requests within 1 day. It is the convenience of withdrawing my fund at any ATM machine that made me registered with them. However, I got my account blocked for no particular reasons and I am pissed off when they requested me to subit my personal particuars and ID........What an irony situation......

I just cant believe this that they have responded within
1 day, Iam yet to receive a reply for my email sent to
them on 30th January, 2004.
As already specified earlier the concept is good and
the Money Transfers occur real fast. All the problems
starts when you need to communicate with them...

iecwillow 03-03-2004, 02:31 AM ikobo limited receive only $205/month. Anyone know how easily to ask them to raise the limit after one successful transcation? and how much they will release to you once you request? Since the request only can be done with email, I can't imagine if the email been treat as other emails which take half month to get reply.
