Doing a whois search on both .com and .net domains it appears the domains were created in July, 2003, which is no big deal, they certainly could have been operating other a parent company domain, etc... however... visiting their website shows in excess of 3,900 customers already, this is exceptional growth to say the least. Their prices are very inexpensive with fairly high bandwidth options available and some "unlimited" features. If I was the one choosing this hosting I would likely pass on it, but that is based only on what I can see and I was unable to find any significant feedback on the company. It'll only cost you $2.99 to give them a spin for a month, actually I think I saw that they offer a free 15 day trial, give it a shot, you won't lose much if anything at all. I'm not fully convinced either way, however, there's a few issues that haven't been addressed, and the one person that is voraciously defending them has yet to come back and update his thread (somehow, this doesn't surprise me). According to their site, they have a 99.9999% uptime SLA. I'm hoping that they mean that their Service Leval Agreement is up 99.9999% of the time, I honestly don't see how any host can boast a minimum downtime of less than 3 minutes a year. Do the math, it adds up correctly. They boast live 24/7 support. Clicked on the link and got: Sorry: There are currently no operators online.. Prices are extremely low for the packages... $5.99 a month for 2 gigs HD/30 gigs of BW? I would personally be looking at a price around $20-$25 a month for that plan, just to break even. Remember, a fair rule of thumb is a buck to a buck and a half per gig of BW (depending on server specs). Domain name $3.99 with any plan? That's less than what Internic charges them... Let me give you an example. If I were to go for a 6 month plan at the $2.99 level and get a domain name from them (Let's just say they're on a $7.95 eNom account)...that's $21.93 for 6 months. Subtract their cost of domain name reg's, and that's now down to $13.98 for 6 months. One time support would run just that much, so he's gotta be losing money on these packages. I'd personally be extremely surprised if he was up and running a year from now at these rates. I do apologize for the novel of a post, but after seeing this, I figured that the consumer (you) should be educated. His new site is pretty fast. At Moodle.org an open source education management system Netmondo has been recommended. Total Choice is also recommened too but it is about twice the price. I am just looking for a cheap place to put a community blog. I will be using Movable Type with a pretty heavy-on-the-server plugin (which analyses the reading level of the posts). I feel sorry for the server that I will be putting it in. Or maybe not, there will only be a few posts a week. The netmondo demo site is really fast. I just tried out the free version of netfirms and even there account management site is very slow (even the page for updating to a paid account - you'd think that they would want to make that page appear quickly). To be honest I do not need the bandwidth but I would like it to be cheap. At less than $25 a year... I am wondering why I am even talking about it!? Sorry...
