my raq seems to be very slow via FTP... it takes forever to execute commands. it just takes a long time to upload files and move around directories. i'm not sure if it's my client or the raq. my connection is real fast (i'm on a school ethernet).

the load average for the raq is usually very low (0.00).. i've tried both passive and nonpassive settings on my ftp clients, but it really doesn't help.

any ideas?

I've had this (seemingly) unexplainable problem, not on my machine, but connecting to *one* specific machine (not even a RaQ). There was nothing that I could find wrong, and I never figured out why. Click folder, wait... wait... wait... then finally you get a listing.

Do other people have the same problem when they connect to the machine, or is it just you?

I had the same problem with my Raq. It may be that you need to edit your proftpd.conf file. Add a line, that says...

UseReverseDNS off

This will prevent Proftpd from trying to do a DNS lookup everytime you send it a command.

Try rebooting the server.

Where is the server and where are you located? (country)

Rebooting doesn't work.

I'm in NC, USA. The RAQ is with Rackshack.

I have the same problem......Kinda

I can FTP via one server name just fine, but others I get the slow bit.

Both sites are on the same RAQ. I tested each login on each server name and had no difference shown.

I even tried the trick mentioned above and got no improvement.

I find this VERY odd, considering the fact that neither site is the primary site on the RAQ.

I'm still watching this thread to see if anyone knows what causes this. Like I said, I don't think it is a RaQ specific issue, as I've experienced it FTPing to a windows box, and there seemed to be no explanation as to why it was doing that (nothing we could find). Really odd, and (from past experience), *really* annoying, I know...

If i logged into ftp and it was slow with both the domain name and the ip address could this posiblly be the problem?

It might be a good way to test if its the problem or not for your ftp.

if ya know what i mean
