View Full Version : How can I get network solutions to change nameservers?
awebs 09-18-2001, 03:42 PM My domain j-one-s.com was originally registered with network solutions. I started a hosting business and set up nameservers ns.j-one-s.com and ns2.j-one-s.com with network solutions.
The next thing I did was move the domain registration to BulkRegister I setup nameservers using bulkregister.
Next I move my business from catalog.com to burst.net and in the process got new IP numbers for my nameservers.
When new clients, who use network solutions as their registrar try to change to my service they are told they can’t transfer to my service because the nameservers in their database are not valid.
Pinging my nameservers goes to the correct ip address. Looking at the network solutions whois database the old ip numbers are still listed.
Since July 20, 2001 I have made 4 attempts to change the network solutions ip numbers with their forms. Nothing happened.
Next in a telephone conversation I ask them to delete the nameservers but a week later I received an email telling me the nameservers could not be deleted because there are domain names bound to the nameservers.
In another phone call I was told to fax information to get the change made – nothing happened. I called again and ask to talk to a supervisor. 3 hours later I hung up the phone with no response.
I talked to them again this last week and was promised the problem would be fixed as an emergency. Another week has past and nothing.
I am at wits end and open to any suggestion OR the name of a good lawyer specializing in internet business.
Thanks for any help

Jaiem 09-18-2001, 03:52 PM NSI is a bear to work with.
Sorry no advise, just sympathy. :)
Smear 09-18-2001, 04:18 PM Network Solutions is the worst company out there. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that they own *****.com. Do what I did... transfer your registrations to http://weblaunching.net. They are much easier to deal with, only $12/year, and provide you with the capability to change all of your settings online in real time.
AH-Tina 09-18-2001, 06:36 PM That may not help. We've always used openSRS for our domains - and created our nameservers through openSRS. Even now, occassionally, someone with a domain name registered through Network Solutions will get a "nameserver does not exist" message when they try to update their domain name to point to our nameservers.
Here's a snippet of a post that someone made in usenet today:
> I'm cross-posting this to a few groups to reach the relevant users.
> This story is all too common. Either you can't transfer your domain
> from NetSol when you want, or they transfer it without telling you.
>
> I am looking to start legal action against them. The easiest way to
> do this is to gather affidavits from everyone they've victimized.

This won't help, the domains aren't at NetSol. Problem is they keep their own records for this and once you move away from them, there is no easy way to change this information and they aren't helpful at all. I have the same problem, though it hasn't caused a problem *yet*.
I'd call and start yelling. Threaten legal action if need be, but see if you can get someone to make the change right then and there if possible. Someone there has to make the change, ask to speak to that 'someone'.
edwow 09-18-2001, 07:56 PM We actually had the same problem as you do.
We registered *******.com from OpenSRS and registered several nameservers from OpenSRS.
Strangely enough, it is not automatically registered on NSI whois.
Followings are the steps that you need to do:
1. Register a CONTACT NIC first.
2. Then Register your nameserver using this form http://www.networksolutions.com/cgi-bin/makechanges/itts/host
3. You will receive a mail from NSI saying that your domain is not valid... bla bla lba.. that;s ok ... what you;re looking for is the NIC registration confirmation number. Looks like NIC-01sd235df
4. This is the painful part .... You need to call NSI at their 1800 number (look around their webpage).
5. You will usually get a 1st level support. Say that you need to register your DNS server on NSI whois and demand to speak with a supervisor level personnel. I need to wait 1-2 hours sometimes to get through to the second level
That;s it.... it is manual .. it is painful and we have to do it. Da** NSI ... :)

JKLIVIN 09-20-2001, 10:46 AM Here is the # that we use when we have problems with NSI, it's also on their website: 703 742 4777.
AdvanceHost 09-21-2001, 01:23 AM Same problem's happening to me. And I will not call them, I am going to put NSI on VETO. :D
This is not right.
Calling NSI and wait for 1-2 hours? And not only 1 call. Come on! That would cost me a big bill more than I earn the whole year profit of one account or more.
winquest 09-21-2001, 01:26 PM This posting is to let everyone know that they are not alone. My customer registered a domain name with NSI. As I have a new domain name set up for my server, I tried to register it as a name server with NSI. Two months and after close to 20 attempts, nothing happened.
I've created a new contact info for my new domain anme and use it to register a host but receive error that the source could not be authenticated.
I've use my customer's ID and password to make changes but was told that db not found.
If any one of you successfully creates a new name host, please help me by telling me what and which exact form do I have to complete.
The new domain name is registered with Stargate.
They have an international toll free number. You may want to call them. That's the only way I can ever get anywhere with them.
winquest 09-21-2001, 01:49 PM I've also lodged a complaint with Federal Trade COmmission & ICANN.
winquest 09-21-2001, 01:57 PM Anyway, it's too costly for me to call them from SIngapore and be put on hold .... By not providing fast assistance, I have already lost my customer.
I am currrently not accepting any customer whose domain is registered with NSI until they resolve the issue.
Smear 09-21-2001, 02:24 PM It took me in excess of a YEAR to get nsi to complete a domain name transfer to me from another person. The info was filled out and faxed to them on time, but they would never do anything about it.
Every time I called, they would claim that they once again have no record of me ever contacting them, then would ask me to mail or fax the info to them again. They claimed they would contact me to acknowledge receipt once I sent the info, but then I'd never hear from them again. Once in a while they'd acknowledge that they received it when I called them, but then say that they didn't complete it because there was some mysterious problem and they don't know what it was.
I can't tell you how many countless hours I spent on the phone and faxing them.
I finally blew my top when receiving yet another "sorry, we lost your paperwork" message in my email. I reported them to the bbb and ftc, and send them an irate email telling them how ridiculous their company is, that they would be out of business soon, and that I had filed reports against them.
The very next day, I received an email telling me that they completed the transfer.

I get always those stupid emails from the support (after one week)... i will transfer my domains somewhere els (if i can) and that`s it. I think and i hope NetworkSolutions will not do like this for long.
