Hi guys!
I was reading quite long time topics here and had no reason to ask, since so many questions and even more great questions are here! :D
I saw good question about using space.
I have quite related question about traffic: if users have limit let say 10 Gb monthly transfer, how much does average user use it?
I mean some package with 100Mb of webspace..
Thank you for answer...

Not really much. Most sites use far less than 1 GB traffic - of course this depends on the type of your customers. E.g. adult sites use really much traffic, and popular forums use traffic too.

Small web sites use less than 200 meg a month.
Very few sites use 1 gig a month.
The exception to this is web sites that contain large number of graphic files or zip files that are available for download to their visitors.
These sites use large quantities of bandwidth, which is why so many hosting contracts limit zip files and graphics to x % of the files stored and/or 20% of the cpu usage.
We had one lady that was a very good cartoonist with a web site with 95 meg of files. She used between 1-2 gig per month. Then her site was mentioned in some magazine and used 287 gig of bandwidth the month the magazine was published.
So you can never tell how much a site will use and must have some way to monitor this.
And no, we do not advertise unlimited bandwidth usage as we do not throttle our servers down.

Can you tell me how some hosting companies restrict 20% CPU usage. Whats the use of 20% CPU usage.
How do they restrict graphics %?
How can we check out that there is some restriction on the CPU or the graphics %

If your CPU usage on your webserver is running at 20%, then your server is pretty overloaded.

Check the acceptable use policy, service agreement or allowable traffic agreement. These may be called by different names or combined into one document but I have yet to evaluate a host that did not have them.
20% of CPU usage is a catch all provision that the client can not disprove. It can be invoked at anytime to remove a high bandwidth usage client who is in the high end of the allowable bandwidth limits but whose usage is costing the hosting company money.
This would be used by a host that advertises unlimited bandwidth or 10 gigs for $10 per month etc. In other words, a hosting company that knows most clients will not use much bandwidth but plans on dumping those who do.
Which is why anybody with common sense would never sign onto a host that makes such offers, as there are no free lunches in the hosting business. You can not provide clients unlimited bandwidth at a fixed cost because some one must pay for the bandwidth used. Nor can you offer 10 gig at a very low monthly cost.
You will get clients that will use the 287 gig I mentioned in the previous message. If you offer unlimited bandwidth you lose a lot of money on that client.
reflexhost.com, you need to read the message before posting a response. I clearly stated 20% of the cpu usage, not 20% cpu usage. Big difference.
Graphics or zip files % is easy to calculate if the host wants to make the effort. They can see your entire account and know what files are stored on the hard disk.
However, you missed the point as well. These are just provisions of the hosting agreement that allows hosts that promise the moon on storage space or bandwidth not to deliver on those promises.
We do not provide unlimited anything and our contract clearly spells out that the client pays for excess usage above what is provided by the hosting plan. We also use control panel software that allows the client to know if they are within the limits of their hosting plan.

Depends on the contents of the site and the member base.
Usually a site with forum, chat rooms, and large member base will use up to few GB.
A normal static or info site use less than 500MB per month.
According to our records,
site with 2000 members will use 10-20GB or more
plain html site usually 100-500MB
:)

How does this correlate with the amount of space they use related to the amount of space alloted?

Thank you very much for response!
It is true about ~2000 members and 10-20 GB
I have my own site and every day ~1000..1500 visitors +
some downloads of free books.
It costs me 12-15 Gb every month :-(
But I thought that my site is not usual from statistic point of view.
That's why I asked you...
It gives me now common sense to start my own hosting.
Thank you
