I recently was hosting this guys site i knew, a small subdomain, he told me it'd be just his own perosnal site, which was fine.... but i have found he has been storing illegal acitivities on his account /home/hisname/public_html

i dont have any way of contacting him
what i want to do is i want to make it so when he tries to login, it stops him and prints out a message saying whatever i want it to say
How can ido this?
is there a file to edit? or to place in his home dir?

can anyone help?

or would it be the .bash_profile

i run rh 7.1 proftpd latest

You could edit the motd (message of the day): /etc/motd

Its shown on shell login, and ftp login is usually something like .welcome_msg, I would suggest chmod'ing the contents of his site 000 so he can't alter them, and denying apache access to them also....

And then notify the proper authorites.....

i wanted to make it so he would login
and it would print the msg

The ProFTPD website http://www.proftpd.org has excellent docs for the program.

Here is a good place to start http://www.proftpd.org/docs/configuration.html#DisplayLogin for what you want to do.
