View Full Version : I really can't believe how fast they steal sites.
microsol 09-17-2001, 06:26 PM We made a page which we put up at Sept.12, saying that our business will be closed from the 12th to the 14th and now i see on humanclick that they stole the site. Exactly our wording, the source code even shows that they stole this site from our URL. Please help shutting this site down by sending letters to the owner of http://www.invs.co.uk/host/thefengshuishop/.
Thank you all.
who are you?? what is your site that was stolen?

Look at the source code. It says clearly saved from zabia.com. Also we announced this page in one of the biggest threads in these forums to customers visiting us.
And what is your problem exactly??
They seem to be sending donations via.. (not to, oops)
http://www.fema.gov/nwz01/nwz01_95.htm
so aren't they actually assisting this effort if they even get a couple of donations.. I mean, what is the issue here??
Sorry, I hate thieving too, but this is different... please enlighten me..

This is different? This page was made by us. I said look at the source code. You also can see this page at http://www.zabia.com/index.us.bombing.html
and they do not send the donations to fema.gov. We did that when our clients just became to see this page!
I forgot something: When you're on the page, reload it within 1 minute and you will see that i want to chat with you with our humanclick!!!
still don't get it.. sorry I'm dumb.. :(
You have laid out some photographs that were 'taken' from somewhere else, not yours... and you are now complaining because someone has taken your 'page' with the photos you took from someone else, and published it..
when the whole issue is to HELP the people who need it.. eg from the FEMA page..
Washington, D.C. September 11, 2001 -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is urging those interested in helping victims of the apparent terrorist events to give blood or cash donations. Those interested in giving blood should call the American Red Cross blood donation hotline, at 1-800-448-3543. The American Red Cross can accept cash donations through 1-800-HELP NOW, and the Salvation Army can accept financial contributions through 1-800-SAL ARMY. Persons who wish to donate their services should contact their local American Red Cross office
so forget all the little flaming red faces, and just explain again what has actually happened to make you so angry..

Yeah maybe
If you wouldn't i could explain where these photos are from and who gave us autorization to use them.
Apart from your dumb anwers the text is also copyright protected as well as the source code says exactly where the page is stolen from!
The Prohacker 09-17-2001, 07:30 PM Hold up, your bitching about people stealing some content that you really stole yourself, thats for a good cause, are you stoned or just stupid?
I'm not meaning to be totally rude, but your sounding like a dumbass.....
Yeah, taking it directly is copyright infringment, but if ya gonna bitch about other people tring to help, by using your content, why put it up in the first place?
Infact leaving the saved from link is kinda like leaving your copyright there, and using the work, gpl :D :D
good answer microsol, thanks... :)
Microsol what did he exactly stole from your site?
You only have text, I don't see a reason why he would do it.

sqposter 09-18-2001, 12:30 AM Real interesting here.
One party claims to have copyright to the text and the OK for use the images.
He ask for help from this community.
Then the rest of you guys are harping on him for protecting his property.
Did any of you guys look at the the offending site in question? if you did ( as I did in IE v 5.5), a search page pops up afterwards.
I can go into great detail about this but I'm way tired so I'll give microsol the way to hit this person where it hurts and get them off his/her back.
1) read this http://www.law.ed.ac.uk/Script/hmcopyr.htm
do a search for Andrew Charlesworth of the UK ( he is the best Barister ( legal rep ) for copyright's in the UK. Last i heard he was still a professor )
2) e-mail the following party's cc each party so total emails sent will be
a) site owner cc: b,c,d (posted above)
b) web master cc: c,d,a
c) hosting company cc: d,a,b ( posted above )
optional d) upstream provider cc a,b,c ( which i think is Verio )
within each e-mail you will site your copyright to the text in question and how the offening site has also taken advantage of the "WTC disaster for profit motives". and that you are willing to take full legal action within the US Of A. and the courts of United Kingdom. Also you will hold all 3rd parties accountable.
( Note : check hosting company if the servers are in the usa and also to see if there is a direct legal contact within there web site. )
Everyone should recall that the copyright is there to protect your work. if on the "net" your not properly noted, your most likely going to get slammed.
Oh, how do I know about web site copyrght's. One of the sites I consult had it's entire page and text and meta tags data copied. I advised the firm to get legal, They won and the company no longer exist.

LOL.. as a matter of fact I did.
And what I saw was the 'page' in question here that was interposed in front of the normal page of that web site, which contained some photographs that are all over the press and media ALL over the world...
Now the link on that page was still pointed to a place for advice about donating to the horrible disaster in the USA, and was set long enough for someone to look and click the Donate Here link..
Now if you believe that using those particular photographs in that way deserves all this nonsense, then you are entitled to I guess, but what awful bad taste it is to write this diatribe of legal crap when the first thing that's seen by anybody going to that page is an appeal to contribute to the disaster relief in some way.. just disgusting...
And as for people making money from this, there are other places on this forum where people feel the need to publish their level of donations, when it would be just as easy to quietly contribute and maybe offer some other words of support...
We all believe in protecting what we own, and truly people shouldn't take things without permission, but do you think the journalists and others who took those photographs originally will go chasing around in some petty crusade to start the legal process rolling against everybody who has used them as microsol has in the first place...
Pathetic..

RIGHT THEN!
I am the person who you want to speak to
1. Now you see on human click? WHAT??????????
Would like to know what human click has to do with this??
2. THE SOURCE CODE WAS LEFT, OUT OF A MARK OF RESPECT TO YOUR SITE
3. PLEASE HELP SHUTTING DOWN THIS SITE?????
<b>WHY YOU WANT TO SHUT DOWN SOMEBODYS SITE?
CAN YOU NOT HAVE EMAILED ME AT THE DOMAIN, AFTER ALL YOU MANAGED TO FIND MY RECORDS AND CUT AND PASTE THEM?
:D YES YOU CAN.</b>
I PERSONALY THINK THE SUBJECT MATTER IS WELL BEYOND MOANING ABOUT SOMEBODY "STEALING" WHEN THESE PHOTOS ARE BASICALY PUBLIC DOMAIN BECAUSE OF WHAT HAS HAPPNED.
WHY DID I HAVE THE PAGE IN THE FIRST PLACE???
because I "used" to host with you, until today, and did not think you would mind as you have NOT put any "normal" legal stuff on your page.
is this personal enough for you scince you seemed happy to try and promote the destruction of a site that is not trying to get hits but which has put the pictures up so people can use.
I have now taken the page you find "oh" so offending down and will not be using your services again, beacuse of the aggressive attitude you have to this type of problem.
Also I got fed up with my site "hosted by you" not working or just not being there.
Why do I answer like this? Cause its a bloody stupid thing for a "FREE HOSTING" situ like yours to argue over!
I value greatly any realistic bandwidth solutions that can offer php and mysql, the perfect nuke combi, especialy when free and I think your site is great, shame about this.
Next time before you flame me somewhere you think I cannot see make sure I am asleep.:o
If I have caused you an inconvieniance by using your page I am sorry but playing possies is not on!
You may also find many many many sites very similar looking due to tuesday, many will be displaying the same pictures as there is a set amount of pictures taken during the "wrong time" and most of them have gone through the news sites, I have checked.
Regards Scott.
I would be most interested in knowing your name.
Go in Peace, cause there ain't much around in the world just now....:D
So I am away to cry now.

But the point here is that he said he had the OK for them (pictures), and was asking for help to shut the offending site down, due to infringment of his context and site design.
as for using the legal system. It's one of the most important resources that we have. I don't go about using it loosely. I hit where it hurts quick and easy. Most of these type of issues will go way if the proper response is drafted by a lawyer.
this also hit's me a bit personaly. I have about 48,000 pages of text that I want to publish on line. part of it is copyrighted by other party's. I have had to negociate for the "rights" to use these texts.
Now I only know very basic html, when I placed my test site up for this text, someone explained how the entire site could be stolen without much effort. ( infact it was about 20 minutes total time with a cable modem ). so here I sit, with money invested trying very hard to protect other peoples work and mine. I have to try to learn another web language, inorder that I protect that work and at the same time, I can give the public something that I enjoy.

WTF are you talking about, i don't think we host your site and after the things happen we never will. Your site would be shutdown already if hosted by us!
WTF are you talking about that your site is never up man? We have 100% uptime at zabia.com and we do not offer free hosting!!
Since when are photos public domain? Haha, can you really be so stupid? But you can tell this the REAL copyright owners which we contacted already.
The fact that there's "no normal legal stuff" on the page doesn't mean you can just take it for your purposes.
Yes, and now just go and cry.
Alright, calm down here. I can just see rationale flying out the window here.....
Please discuss this matter in a more civilised manner. Thank you for your co-operation.

Thank you for your comment. Why don't you just lock this topic?
method5 09-18-2001, 09:30 AM ok you guys are talking about trying to close down a site that is accepting money for the WTC disaster...... you guys are all dumbass's who are supporting this guy.
sorry to say, but the guy prolly only copied the page to help support the cause.. your acting like you were the first to have a donation page,.. theres 100x sites accepting donations now.
i see you may be angry that he copied your site but still! its for a good cause. if you get this site closed down you will be showing disrespect for the US.
Chicken 09-18-2001, 10:02 AM Site is taken down...
