I looked at HSPComplete the other day and what caught my eye was the ability to offer VDS, but I think that in order to run the VDS, it needs Virtuzzo. The language on the web site is to sales pitchy which is pretty hard to really get into the guts of the product and see what it's all about. Has anyone used these products before and want to share their experiences? I'm planning to use it with FreeBSD and don't see what it actually required to run it, or the total cost to run this application.

HSPcomplete automates Virtuozzo. So yes, you need both. Virtuozzo is a great VPS system, possibly the best available. The only other system that comes close is Ensim, but I prefer Virtuozzo because you can oversell and fit more VPS's into a server. It's really fast, I don't have any complaints yet. If you dont like HSPcompletes billing system, I recommend only getting Virtuozzo.
There are many other choices for VPS, but I don't think they have the commercial backing like Virtuozzo and Ensim.

It is great! Very capable, and HSP makes management a snap.
As for running on FreeBSD, we ran into problems with it. However, we're not running the latest version.

Interesting.... We basically have our own control panel, so if I'm understanding correctly, Virtuzzo acts as a layer, a way to install multiple instances of an OS on a server. I'm curious if it's anything similar to using VMWare product and if there is less overhead associated. I would think VMWare is decent since they have been doing virtual emulation much more longer than Virtuzzo, but then again, Virtuzzo was developed primarily for the purpose of hosting VDS.
I heard about people working with FreeBSD's jail roots and how that differs with something like Virtuzzo. Jail roots are native to FreeBSD and so I'm assuming would be more stable? Any thoughts about that?

VMWare is great, but it's very different from Virtuozzo. VMWare emulates an entire computer. Because of this you can run multiple operating systems simultaneously on one machine. For example, you could run Windows AND Redhat on one machine. It does a pretty good job too. However, this does have a lot more overhead then Virtuozzo.
Virtuozzo will only make multiple instances of the same operating system, such as RedHat 7.3. Each VPS is basically just an isolated set of processes with their own virtual file system. So each VPS runs like it is a dedicated server, but a lot more can be run on one machine, since each VPS will share many things in common with the other VPS's.
For hosting I highly recommend Virtozzo or even Ensim. A VPS is a much better solution because you'll get more virtual machines per physical machine. You should be able to run multiple isolated instances of your own control panel, with only very little modification.

UML is also an option .
Its free , but has slightly more overhead that virtuzzo ( less than vmware)
However only works with linux :-)
