On average, how much of the plan disk space would you say your clients use? Does the plan itself make a difference? For instance, with a 50MB plan do they generally use 20? With a 500MB plan do they generally use 499? I'm looking averages here, obviously some will use most or all of the alloted space. Thanks.

It depends what kind of websites you are targeting ...our average is 25-40MBs.

Our average is probably smaller than that - maybe 2-5 MBs or so. There is a couple of bigger ones of course but that's in the minority. As time's gone by the average size has crept up a bit as people are starting to use journals and whatnot, but it's not a dramatic shift.

people usually try to get as much space as they can for the money they're willing to spend.. *just in case
& rarely use more than half of it

speaking only from my experience which is generally personal/small business sites

10-20 mb is about good package for small to medium business. Unless they've got huge database.

90% of our clients use 2-5 meg, even the ones that sign up for 300 meg. Which I have never understood, as the control panel tells them how much they bought, how much they have used and how much they have remaining. Doesn't even make them do the math.

5% use all of their storage, within a meg. (They must monitor their contol panel. :) )

5% are always over their allotted storage and usually become upset when they are told to bring it back down, upgrade to a plan with more storage or be charged for the extra space at a very stiff usage rate.

The last 5% are the ways we could do without and usually end up telling to move to another host.

We do not automatically charge for extras storage usage but just warn them the first month or two, as this has resulted in charge back dispute before and it is not worth the time nor money that such disputes involve.
