Due to some issues with my current host, I'm looking to move to my own Windows server. In order to keep people happy, I need to find a new webmail solution (preferrably free). What do you recommend? I'm currently planning on running Windows 2003 Server with MSSQL 2000 and would prefer to use the built in POP3/SMTP servers. Thanks for your help!

Not sure if squirrelmail will work on Windows, but it's entirely written in php, no mysql or anything so that may work. If not, there may be a ported version of squirrel for Winblows in the works. Who knows.

Thanks everyone. It's looking like I'm probably going to have to actually set the server up and see what works the best. So far uebimiau is the only one that doesn't appear to require installing an IMAP server or cygwin, but I'm concerned about their lack of updates (well, one in the past year). We'll see what happens. Keep the ideas coming!

I know you said you would prefer to use the smtp server that comes with windows, but... when you can afford to host on windows 2003 and using ms sql (that's about $180 a month to Microsoft), I would suggest you look at MailEnable Pro (it's about $200 for unlimited users/domains), a really good mail server including web-mail, virus scanner plug-in etc.

J.

So if you're willing to pay... why don't take a look at Alt-N MDaemon?

MDaemon isn't exactly cheap! And they use licensing based on the number of users/domains.

I've been using Mail Enable for a while, ended up buying the pro version. Very nice software.. and there is a free version www.mailenable.com

Well see this is a personal site/server and I work for Microsoft, so the MS Software is relatively cheap for me. I just don't have a lot of additional money to put into something that is basically only used by my family.

Mail Enable looks nice. I may go with that if I decide not to use the built-in mail features.

By Default, we use mailenable. It provides what the average customer needs.

Have you tried squirrelmail? It is great and free. Has hundreds of plugins and is very well supported.

We have used it for over a year and our clients are very happy with it.
