I'm having a problem trying to register a second set of nameservers to one of my domains.

I've been using ns1 & ns2 on one server for some time with no problem, on tuesday i had some space setup on a second server and was given the IP's to register as the nameservers.

My domain is at namecheap, i registered ns3 & ns4.mydomain.com the same day to those IP's but even now, after 5 days they have yet to resolve (wont ping)

I know the IP's are correct and active because i can access and use the account via them. I just got a reply from Richard at namecheap who says there is nothing wrong from their end and it's a problem with the host, and my host says there's nothing wrong from their end and it's a problem with namecheap, so i'm going round in circles :bawling:

Am i right in thinking that if i registered a nameserver to any IP (say one of googles for example), after propogation i would still be able to ping it right? and if not, surley this must be a problem from namecheaps end?

Any ideas? :(

I had the same problem when I registered nameservers through namecheap. I just resubmitted them and about 24 hours later they were working. Maybe it's a little bug in their system or maybe their system is slow when it comes to name server registration.

Just do a traceroute to your nameserver URL. If it is registered, it will go through and stop at the last hop if it's a problem with the server. If it's a propriation problem, it won't go through at all as the nameserver won't be assosiated with an IP address.

At least that way you know who to keep bugging.

No there's nothing from the traceroute at all, as i was thinking, if you registered a nameserver to any IP you would get "something" so it has to be a problem with namecheap.

I've tried to re-submit them, problem is namecheaps control panel doesn't let you delete nameservers, you can only edit or add, which both return "no change" or an error unless you change the IP's *sigh* :(

/me waits another day to see if that fixes it.
