Does angelfire even support mysql?

I'm not 100% sure here, but I did not see where Angelfire offers the required PHP/MySQL needed to host IPB. If I am wrong, I will be happy to help you out. However, I don't think they support it.

One of my freinds (he owns www.jackaldesigns.com) told me they could be used with angelfire. How would i be able to check f it supports mysql?

And if angelfire doesnt support it, do you know of any free hosts that would?

Contact Angelfire and ask them, I although I feel sure that if they had MySQL, it would be listed.

http://www.freewebspace.net

Try your search there. It's a free web hosting dicussion forum. As for any free hosts, off the top of my head there is http://www.tripod.co.uk - I had a play around board hosted there at one point if they still have MySQL.

Well then could you set me up a IPB board at Tripod?

Yes, FastEZ Support, feel free to contact me. Although, when setting up IPB, all it takes is following the install file and you'll be fine. ;)

I think for an invision board, you might just have to put out a few bucks a month for a good host.

It's worth it anyway, for ad-free and good speeds.

I agree,

Most free hosts arent going to offer MySQL, allthough you may be able to request it and they might charge you a fee.

I would reccomend you pay couple of bucks for solid hosting. Its worth it in the long run.

Don't you think it a bit ironic and, frankly, presumptious that you don't choose to use the services of any of the hosts here, but rather go the free route, then come here and ask the hosts you chose against to assist you....why didn't you ask angelfire to assist you? Just a rhetorical question....and why, I applaud those who will help you, I just find it a bit disconcerting that this is the course you follow. Had you chosen even an entry CPanel plan, you would have installed Invision Board with the click of a button.

Ah, but see, Strobe is a potential customer. So helping him out puts in the good name for you. While it may seem to be taking of advantage of someone now, that person may get paid back sometime in the future. Not to mention it's just nice and other potential customers may see "hey look, that guy will do anything to make someone happy. I bet he's a good host."

Actually I had a few minutes of free time on my hands so I volunteered. Anyways, I pointed him to Invisionfree.com which got the job done for him. Although I almost ended up having to play tech support for them. ;) Anyways, I think he's happy now at least. His board is for a small clan site, so I don't really think you can blame the guy for not paying...

I do agree of course that a paid host would be better, don't get me wrong, but it's a smaller board so probably to him it's not worth the investment.
